They don't actually make you harder to detect, they actually increase accuracy or weapon sway or something, basically stuff OTHER than sound and detection.
So suppressors as they are designed in the real world don't exist, these are just gun upgrades.
"So suppressors ... EDIT: Oops my bad.
Note: I said suppressor, not silencer.
And yes, I know there is no such thing as a "silencer".
Yeah this is more or less the only real benefit to silencers.
Otherwise they are just a high tech weapon mod.
It sucks, I agree. But truth be told this games "sneaking" system seems pretty bare bone. I don't even think the sneak skill helps. Game is really geared towards killing stuff not sneaking by it.
The next best thing is to simply make sure your gun can do more damage than they can take and just waste 'em in one shot. Considerably easier if you can manage that. Taking stealth related perks also helps quite a bit too as they increase the sneak attack damage as well.
Nope. That's a different perk. There IS a perk that increases ALL sneak damage. AND there is a perk that increases silenced sneak damage. Trust me, I always play stealth.
