How do I extract screws from found objects?
I already know where to find the items that have screws so I can improve weapons and armor etc. What I do not know is how to extract the screws from these items. No one is clear on the net how to do this. Is there a perk I have to reach or what please help as I have a feeling I am passing up on this improvement that I could use that can really help out. Thank you for your time.

Just throw the item into your workshop. When you need screw(ed) the item will automatically be broken down. The other components are saved (not lost).

Thanks for the answer and I will look into this. However, I just checked your profile and you look to be the perfect person for Skyrim. I am older as well and it is perfect for us old farts. Take your time and enjoy the games great views and places to explore. Set the game, on easy so you can take it its wonders and as you progress you can make it harder. My opinion.

I do own Skyrim. I was playing all the Elder Scrolls and was up to Skyrim when FO4 dropped to $30 for the GOTY. I was a little burnt out on Elder Scrolls so I jumped to Fallout. I like a challenge so I always play as hard a level as I can. I do FO4 in survival mode. I cannot do any game that requires twitch shooting but Skyrim and Fallout are OK for me.

I love a good action game, even if I almost never play multiplayer anymore. Though during the Summer Sale I was topping CS:GO rounds having never played it before (or another MP shooter in years). Did gamers get worse while I was aging?

I digress.

I'm just not always in the mood for action. I find I'm leaning more and more on slower paced games for their convenience and ease of access. Ever since FO3 I found I really enjoyed VATS for it's ability to slow down intense, twitchy moments without taking away from my well placed shots either.

I would actually like full VATS implemented into Skyrim, honestly. Never really looked into a mod for it either.

There is also a lot of screws in modded weapons, but you need the Perk "Scrapper" to get max out of them. A heavily modded gun can be scrapped in the Weapons Workbench without any perks, and you get screws, but scrapper brings you more of all "rare" material.
