Trouble at Finch Farm
I've played through this game a couple of times and found the "Defend Settlement X" annoying while being out on a quest. So, this playthrough I thought I try getting through the main quest and all the quests for the DLC's, and THEN go into the whole settlementbuilding and defending.
And now of course Finch Farm is kind of getting me a headache (yeah, I know it's one of the buggiest settlements).
The problem is this; I got the Heavy Incinerator from The Creation Club so I wanted to test this and went into Saugus Ironworks and finished the quest "Crucible" that comes with that content, and I did this without talking to Abraham Finch and starting the quest "Out of the fire", thus I never went into the last room where Jake and the Forged Boss are.

Now when I much later on in the game went back to the farm I found out that Abraham was dead! I've tried resurrecting him with console command but the quest never comes up, in fact he's just commenting that it's nice to have Jake back! I've even went in to Saugus again to the last room and there's two forged that attacks me instantly. But the Boss is just standing there and Jake is commenting on that he would never have gotten out of there without my help. But I never started the damn quest! So, now it seems like I can't take over the settlement.

I can't go back that far in with a previous save, because I'm on Survival mode, but I got the mod that enables console commands in cases some glitch/bug would occur, because "-It just works!" DOESN'T WORK! So any suggestions/console commands to get me out of this p(F)inch? ;)

I think you are screwed. If you cannot reload a save from before, I dont think there is any way around it. Any more console commands will definitely mess up your game more.

Yeah for some dumbass reason none of the Finches have protected status.

Ressurrection never works because their script ended when they died. Bringing them back does not restart their script.

Which Jake always has a broken script after you bring him back anyways.

Use the claim settlement tools. This does it the proper way so it appears on the provisoner/transfer settlement list.

Thanks, Bored Peon! I'll try that mod. Guess that in any eventual new play, I'll handle Finch Farm in an early stage.

Actually you would just be better of making all the Finch NPCs protected.

Not a single one of the NPCs have protected status like other settlers.
Not a single one has a weapon.
After quest is done Jake's script is broken and he just stands there.

Then they chase the Gunners on the bridge when the Gunners start shooting the brahmin near the settlement. Then because they have no weapon they run to melee and attract the Forged from Saugus.

Yeah, I was actually also thinking of doing that. Save a lot of headache!

I wonder if Bethesda is ever gonna give up on their favoriteqoute, "-It just works!"?

It kinda does, when you think about the massive amount of crap they put into a game it is a very small percentage that doesnt quite work.

When I see that line, "it just works" it reminds me of that insurance commercial that says,
"It's not okay when it's just okay" (or something like that).

I think of that line as "Well here is an easy way to put my foot in my mouth."

It wasn't a reference to you. I was pointing a finger at Bethesda. Just to clarify to prevent misunderstanding.

I know it wasnt directed at me, it just seems saying something like that is stupid because someone is going to throw it in your face if something does go wrong. Which people have thrown it back, constantly, lol.
