Are you sure all traces of all mods are gone? Most people recommend an uninstall, deleting all FO4 folders to be sure, then reinstalling clean.
After uninstalling, I made sure that every folder was deleted. All traces should definitely be gone.
Have you tried lowering other settings?
Have you tried verifying game files?
I've always had weapon debris on high but did hear that it can cause some problems. After turning it off, the game seemed fine but then ended up crashing anyway later on.
The settings have stayed the same throughout the entirety of me owning the game.
Verified the game files but nothing was missing.
I'm stumped.
Depending how long ago was the last time you played, there may have been patches or changes to the engine since then that make your old settings not run as well. It doesn't need to stay that way, but lowering settings for a test could point you at a hardware problem or deficiency.
Graphics drivers also change over time and that could result in different performance. Tell your graphics control panel to reset FO4's settings to default for testing. Some driver versions will just not work right at all--you could try upgrading/downgrading.
That most likely means you didn't update F4SE correctly.
Ok so I messed around with the settings a bit but didn't notice any difference. I decided once again to turn weapon debris off like you suggested and all of a sudden the game seemed to be working fine. I completed the prologue twice and made it all the way to sanctuary without the game crashing once. i'm going to do some more testing before modding it again, but for the time being everything seems to be working fine. For now I'll conclude that weapon debris was the problem. Thanks so much for your help.
Are you using any kind of performance mods that may remove that feature?
Holy crap that saved me a lot of time. Just started a new playthrough but the game was randomly crashing. Thank you so much
