Weird XP Glitch?

Okay, I will start of that I have no XP perks.

Now what happened is, I free Nick Valentine.

When we came to the point where we were confronted, I speech checked the woman, she went home, and the guy said we have 10 seconds to leave..... In which I did not.

As he was counting down to about 4, I lock on with vats and blew his head off hes shoulders and finish hes men with a molotov.

I randomly got over 2000xp which was 2 perk points.

Now because I was a knob and threw a molotov I burned myself to death in the process while I was busy receiving the xp, so I had to reload my game and do it all over again, only this time I got like 200xp for doing the exact same actions over again.... Just not dying in the process?

Just kidding, no idea what happened to you there sport.

It could have simply been a visual glitch caused by your character dying at the time.
