Fallout 4
How is the Mysterious Stranger Not Aging or dying?
I've Been studying this, i have Fallout: New vegas and fallout 3 on PS3. Fallout 2 and 1 is on my PS2, Fallout 4 on steam. The mysterious stranger is so interesting. I've actually found a theory true. The Mysterious Stranger was in Vault 111. And if you looked close around the Overseer office of 101, you can find his department under the desk, and take a note talking about the mysterious stranger. The mysterious has a device thats like a pip-boy but its his coat, his coat is a age stopper. first he was in vault 111 in a cyro chamber. i forgot where but, meh.

Pet theories:
1. No underlying meaning; it's just a funny thing the devs placed in every Fallout game.
2. It's a non-feral ghoul who disguises himself as a regular human.
3. It's a guy who gained access to the same ancient space alien tech that Lorenzo Cabot had found when he was excavating in the middle east.

Hes an Eldritch entity named Farmer according to the Fallout 3 Official Game Guide, and is inspired by the trenchcoat-clad figures of 1940s and 1950s film noir.
"You have a Guardian Angel, but with a deadly hand-cannon instead of wings. Meet the Mysterious Stranger, AKA real name- Farmer. An odd and eldritch entity said to appear and aid you in combat before you draw your dying breath. Of course, it helps if you have said a prayer to Farmer first."

If I may, this is most interesting, as the Drifter from FNV has the "Mysterious Magnum" from this "Father" that impregnated his mother, then was no longer seen again; where the pistol plays the “Mysterious Stranger” melody when utilized. This could suggest that this “Farmer/Father” is akin to The Force manifesting in Anakin Skywalker’s Mother (Shmi) impregnating her and then leaving this plane of existence. I wonder then, what influences - generations down the Fallout timeline - this “Farmer” intends? Interesting...

Edit:
Is he a Grim Reaper of Fallout..? Literally 'farming souls' from enemies that would have otherwise ended your killing sprees (which no doubt collect many soulselectric for him)..? Is he The Collector, protecting your harvesting machinations, by literally saving your virtual life, when without intervention you would have stopped your killing, which is endorsed for his purposes..? Interesting...

The Mysterious Stranger in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas is heavily implied to be the father of The Lonesome Drifter. In speech, the Drifter will state that his father was a "mysterious" man, and that he was a "stranger" to his own family. The word mysterious appears right above stranger in the dialogue box. The Drifter carries a unique .44 Magnum, which can be acquired by the Courier, that looks remarkably like the Mysterious Stranger's .44 Magnum; and when drawing it, the same guitar notes that are heard when the Mysterious Stranger shows up are played, and a chord is played when the weapon is holstered. As of Fallout 4, the Mysterious Stranger is currently being investigated by Nick Valentine, who has made note of his several appearances in other games of the series, and attempts to apprehend him when he appears.

I never got that gun in fallout NV sadly. I have to play again and try to get it. Thank you for answering my inquiry Tesityr.
You're most welcome - I too am feeling an itch to visit The Desert, heh
Definitely.

That's what I'm doing, and after F4 it takes a lot of re-adjustment

I just thought I'd note though that in F4, Mr. Cobot mentions (the last conversation with him) that he's thinking about visiting a site in the Mojave....

Just thinking out loud, if the Lone Wanderer gets the Drifters Dads gun in New Vegas, and the Drifter goes off to play guitar - who passes on the legacy?

The Drifter?
Or the Lone Wanderer?
The Stranger himself?
Someone else entirely...

If the Mysterious Stranger appears in DC for F3, Boston for F4, and Nevada for FNV, how do the timelines fit? When did he (or who it was then) travel to where?

All hypothetical. For all we know his Momma's name was Alice, and she used to be a... 'Hostess' in Dallas

Fallout 1 - Southern California 2161
Fallout 2 - Same location? 2241 (eighty years after Fallout 1)
Fallout 3 - Capitol Wasteland thirty years after Fallout 2
Fallout New Vegas - Mojave Wasteland four years after Fallout 3
Fallout 4 - the Commonwealth (of Massachusetts) 2287 ~ ten years after Fallout 3

That's odd. He starts out in SoCal, ends up in Washington DC, 4 years later he's in the desert, and then goes to Boston

What game first mentions the Mysterious Stranger?

I'm not sure where "Tactics" fits in if anywhere, but it was set near Chicago I think

i'm getting some genius from this discussion. i like these theories.
Maybe there is no mysterious stranger other than as a symbol?

Its person who wears the coat and gun and then passes it to a successor?
I never bothered with that perk
I actually sometimes think, mysterious stranger is just an illusion and he only appears for you and nick's eyes, and whenever the mysterious stranger is there, HES NOT, hes a illusion that made you think somebody helped whenever you actually did the shot. Its hard to explain.
xd
