How do you close Fallout 4 if it's not responding?
It just won't close and my task manager wouldn't even show up whenever the game crashes. It just takes up the entire screen and won't let my task manager pop up. What do my dudes.

run it in borderless windowed mode, that should allow you to see the task manager

Ctrl,alt,delete then log out.

You need to sign out when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL instead of opening the task manager. Also, try to disable weapon debris in the launcher to prevent crashing. This worked for me and everyone with RTX cards or other new cards.

In the task manger, click on settings and select "always on top". That way, the task manager will always be in front of other windows.

That.

the classic "alt F4" chat troll for its real situation, it closes the current active application. But it doesn't always work and then you need to trigger taskmgr as described in other posts

If task manager won't pop up, if you're on windows 8.1 or 10, press the windows button and tab at the same time, click 'new desktop', open the taskmanager from there.
If taskmanager won't show up at that point, it's time to see if you can just restart the system, and if not, it's hard reset time.

Hit windows key then hit shut down or restart and it'll close fallout 4 and your web browsers
first, then you can cancel it. I used to play with one monitor and I kept notepad open so it wouldn't actually shutdown because the crash was inevitable.

It's easier with 2 monitors because you can open task manager on the 2nd one, but if that's not an option then the shutdown method should work.

You have to combine it with:

Simply because some times Fallout 4 will remain on top and the task manager will not pop up. By following those instructions that makes sure it is almost always on top when you hit CNTRL ALT DEL. It is a must have setting when running any crash prone program.

To open the Task Manager directly, hit: ctrl + shift + escape

If you routinely have trouble with the system getting locked up, there's also the option suggested by an earlier thread of making a desktop shortcut to force a shutdown for unresponsive processes. You can also make it more targeted to specific programs if you want to make sure you're only affecting Fallout 4.

LOL, meanwhile I've learnt how to use the task manager without seeing it, or based on a few flashes before FO4 grabs the screen back

One thing you can try is pressing the Windows key and X at the same time which should call up a power user window where you can find and select the Task Manager, then end the "Not Responding" process.
There have been very few exceptions where that didn't work and I had to resort to a hard reboot by powering off the PC.

A less complicated way for me is to press the windows button , press power off, then cancel it when you see fallout 4 has been closed. it works everytime but it sometimes closes Steam too. So this is less troublesome last resort.
