Playing as a Super Mutant
I've been wanting to do this for quite some time, and I was wondering: What's the best method for doing this? Basically, there's two things I want to do:

1. Look like a super mutant
2. Be able to wear super mutant armor

Is this achievable with setrace or are mods required? What mods are good for this? Please give suggestions.

There is a mod called Start Me Up. But I don't think it supports a Super Mutant. It does support a playable ghoul mod. So you might be able to adapt.

From what I know of modding, I see no reason why that wouldn't be doable. Seems simple enough (with the caveat that you might get stuck in small spaces). In fact, if it's like Skyrim, you can just increase your character size with the console. I'm afraid I don't know of one, though. Might want to ask on the Nexus forums.

I'm bored so here's what I used on my mutant playthrough. I have alot of mods installed so I ended up using console commands to join the mutant faction and get companions, and saved mods for customizing my character, settlements, retextures and all that other stuff....i'll put some of the console commands below but they're more for a last resort..

^Playable Super Mutant..haven't tried it yet so.....good luck..read the mod page

Overhauls
Start Me Up
Super Mutant Redux
Super Mutants Shall Inherit the Earth
Cannibal Reworked (optional)
Retextured Super Mutants (optional)
Crows and Creatures (includes hounds)

Settlement stuff
Super Mutant Workshop
West Everett Player Settlement
Swinging Animated Meat Bags (because why not)
Conquest (set up workshop at mutant locations, just take it easy on the scrapping)

armor/weapon
The Bumper Sword
Classic Super Sledge
Concrete Sledghammer
Jumbalaya's Power Armor for Strong (in theory it should work with Playable Super Mutant...haven't tried it yet..)

Companion
Recruit Any NPC as Follower (I had issues with this because I use UCF...I ended up using console commands for hound/mutant companions..there's a few companion mods out there you just have to test them out)
Cait as Female Super Mutant (immersive?...)

=================================

If Playable Super Mutant doesn't work as intended you can use looksmenu and console commands...I never used setrace but if that works then you can ignore the rest...

super mutant faction id is 58305
to add yourself to the faction: player.addtofaction 58305 0

replace "player" with whatever id you want to add...you'll have to do this with your companions too (including Strong) or mutants will attack them...if you want to add human settlers then the settler faction id is 337F3

mods:
Looksmenu
Looksmenu Compendium (blue/green skin)
Kaleidascope Eyes (something like that..for the mutant eyes)

check the looksmenu Description page for other mods that might help customize your character..

and then don't forget the dog merchant in far harbor has mutant hounds available to guard your settlements
