To Start Automatron quest or not.
So I'm now level 27, Mechanical Menace is a quest active since level 15. I delay that quests because I do not like Rust Devils being the only encounters.

Can I continue to delay the quest ? I try to avoid the area but I passed nearby 1 or 2 levels ago and the quest still active, like the fight is still going on if I go nearby. Fortunately, I did not go close enough so that that I have to get involved.

I would not have installed this DLC knowing that, but now it's too late I'm too deep into my game to restart.

Advices ?

I love the do it myself robot companions so for me the Rust Devils are just free parts for my do it myself buddies.

Mess the mechanistic up

You can do it whenever.

If you triggered the fight, chances are, when you get around to doing the dlc everybody there will already be dead. Just go talk to ida to start it.

I did not ''trigger'' the fight actually. I loaded my last save and went in to check, the fight occurs still. The quest still showing as ''Find the Caravan''. All the friendly robots with Ada die as soon as I arrive and she's fighting the others.

You can delay it as long as you want, but (and this is a big but ((no pun intended)) ), you need to avoid that area or cell where the caravan is being attacked. If it triggers, either rush in and go for it (starting the quest), or reload to an earlier save.

I've found it best to start it by level 20 or so, but the combat can be intense at times. If you trigger the quest by getting close, and don't get involved, I've found that it will sometimes fail to progress without using the console (which I won't do). That may have been patched as it happened to me a couple years ago.

The big problem with holding off on this quest, is that the trigger point is a major intersection that you will (probably) travel, and avoiding it without triggering the Automatron Quest is difficult. It's best just to do it. Just be aware that you will get multiple settlement attacks once you start & until you complete it.

Ok thanks for the advices. Do theses ''attack'' and Rusty Devils encounters stop after the quest is complete ? Reading on the internet I find contradictory informations on the subject.

As I said earlier, the quest did not trigger the fight as I was able to go there and participate in it. That is after I wandered north of the area and could see lazer firing far from there. But it still did not trigger the quest.

Do understand that if you intend to recruit the level 4 wandering merchants like the Scribe, do so before starting Automatron as the Rust Devils kinda overrun the same encounter areas the Scribe can appear in.

I do not know the Scribe or where to find him hehe. I will look into that and I will keep that in Mind. Might be better I start to look for him now.

I have no intention to start Automatron right away, after reflexions. I will delay the quest a bit more.

Do you use any mods? If you do not, you might be able to deactivate that DLC. Make a save game and make sure it loads. Then uncheck that DLC. Load the game. It will complain that the DLC is missing. Load anyway. Make another save right away. Then load that new save. If the game is stable then OK. If not reenable and go back to that earlier save.
If you do use mods, there is one that mostly eliminates the constant encounters once the quest starts.

Rust Devils won't be the ONLY enemies you encounter, they are added to the ones already in the game.

They always die - it's part of the story.

True. But everything else has a 1% chance to appear at a random spawn point. The Rust Devils or robot gangs get a 60% chance to spawn. A mod can drop that back to 1%

Rust Devils wont replace all other encounters, only some of the random fight locations. And Rust Devil Patrols are seen on many main Roads. They are harder to fight because they have better armor vs Ballistic damage, and early on most players rely on Ballistic Guns. Upgraded Righteous Autorothy (Paladin Danses quest item) is a good weapon vs Rust Devils. For Ballistic use Overseers Guardian and/or the Deliverer Pistol. Or any of the "Good" guns (not Pipes..uuurgh!)

The DLC has 3 major locations until completion, and along the way you will get a weapon that makes pancakes of all Rust Devil encounters. And you might get a full suit of upgraded PA X-01. You might even find 2 so your Companion can wear one.

Rust Devils will appear more often after you trigger the DLC, replacing random fight location. Finding the Scribe is no problem at all, he will always wander south of Cambride on the main road. And after DLC completion Rust Devil encounters will decrease, but they will not STOP.

Do not be afraid of the Rust Devil, they add a lot to the world. They have better loot (weapons & armours).

The DLC is good and adds a lot to your Game World. It starts at lvl 15 for a reason, and that is that it is DOABLE from lvl 15 and onwards. If you go all in on this DLC from lvl 15 you can expect to level up from 4 - 6 levels, depending on your difficulty. Along the way to the main locations you find a lot of other locations, doing theese along the way too will level you up further.

You will be a better and stronger player after doing it so go ahead and have some fun.

Check this map. The DLC sends you straight to a level 30+ area as the first location to go to. You kinda need to wait a while before even getting started. Unless you don't mind dying and reloading a lot.

The quest WILL start, whether you want it to or not. I have had it activate while swimming in the river nearbye. I have had it activate while doing the railroad quest Boston after dark. Apparently this gets you close enough for the game to prompt you that you spoke to the robot--when actually you did not speak to the robot. It will start, unless you move to Far Harbor, and never move back. I have even had rust devils attack my fortress/resort on Spectacle Island.
Zotliatlicor Sep 8, 2019 @ 4:17am
True it is hard for a level 15. I read that map area as 20-25, not 30 (first location). But the Main Story is also super hard for low level, but you can go straight to rescue Nick at lvl 10 +, it comes down to armor and weapon output. And if you do as i said, explore and do locations on the way, you will levle up nicely.

But beeing inside General Atomics Factory at lvl 15 is way too hard, agreed. But again it is not very likely to be just at lvl 15 when one arrives there.
