Lone survivor Synth,
Im a later player of FO4 . Been playing for a year now.
I wondered if anyone else picked up what child Shaun says to his "dad" at the Castle.
In one conversation he is concerned for his dad but then says to him " but its ok , they said you cant die" . I'm assuming he means the institute told child Shaun that . Is this a play on words from the creators , knowing the lone survivor Re Spawns or is it that the lone survivor is a Synth and can be replaced again . I know synths die but perhaps its suggesting being a synth he can be replaced again. Also in one of the institute computers it says that baby Shaun died during the initial process of being used to create the first Synths.
Just curious of others takes on this. Thanks so much.Helen

Apart from in-game possibilities (like someone trying to offer reassurance), it could be a subtle joke about how the player can just reload their game if they die.

My guess is that the comment is simply a fourth wall break.

Or it could just be that little shaun is looking at the world from a child's perspective, and can't imagine his father/mother, or at any rate the person he sees as his parent, dying. I don't remember that line, but I think it's most likely that.

@helen.annie.hillyer,
Since I never got Shaun to the castle, I've not had the opportunity to hear that line or more importantly ... how he said it.
Can you describe how Shaun said it?
ie. "You can't die" (meaning he doesn't want you to die). Saying in his own way, he doesn't want to lose you.
OR
"You can't die" (because children often see their parents as immortals) meaning they don't believe you're vulnerable to death.

It does not necessarily imply he thinks (or believes) you're a synth.

Did he sound worried?

Just like this movie Fallout has an altered timeline and Earth is fighting off an alien attack. The game mechanics of saving on sleep may actually be explained in the story eventually.

I count 5 destroyed or captured alien ships as well as the Institute, part of the Alien offensive, and the Alien take over of Vault Tec all confirmed, although there may be more ships in the games i think.

Unlike the movie i am sure that humanity lost in the battle and in a last ditch attempt to save the planet basically messed up time or its straight up time travel by the Survivors or something.

Oh look flippy's here. How's it going with the lizardmen or whatever?
Flippy Sep 11, 2019 @ 5:46pm
On top of the 5 or more Alien ships in the Fallout games all from one faction there is also another alien faction confirmed, whats his name with the hat, and the Atom followers may represent a 3rd alien faction.

In fact in Fallout 4 alone its basically confirmed there are 3 Alien factions the player interacts with.

The Institute Aliens with 5 or more ships, HEV virus and the rest are confirmed to have been on Earth at least 500 years, The guy with the hat aliens also a long time, and the Atom followers interact with what is known as an Egyptian god to live in the rads a Youtube channel explains rather well, also been around a long time.

This below is the Alien or Egytpian god or what ever the Fallout story describes who the followers are in contact with to survive the rads. A real world Egyptian history character.

"Atum (also known as Tem or Temu) was the first and most important Ancient Egyptian god to be worshiped in Iunu (Heliopolis, Lower Egypt), although in later times Ra rose in importance in the city, and eclipsed him to some extent. He was the main deity of Per-Tem (“house of Atum”) in Pithom in the eastern Delta."

"In 1954, George James, in his Stolen Legacy, a book which argues that Greek philosophy originated in ancient Egypt, Memphite theology (see: Memphis creation myth) specifically, suggested that the Greek term “atom” is based on the name of the Egyptian god Atum. [1] Others such as Martin Bernal (1987) and Anthony Preus (1993) and others have published views forwarding this argument. [2]"

“We see changes in things because of the rearrangement of atoms, but atoms themselves are eternal. Words such as ‘nothing’, ‘the void’, and ‘the infinite’ describe space. Individual atoms are describable as ‘not nothing’, ‘being’, and ‘the compact’. There is no void in atoms, so they cannot be divided. I hold the same view as Leucippus regarding atoms and space: atoms are always in motion in space.”

If the SS was a synth, Shaun, your son, would have told you. My headcanon is, the SS was a backup for if Shaun didn't survive. That's why Kelogg says, keep one alive, they might need the one parent incase the son doesn't make it.

That said, I always had a strange feeling that Deacon was the real SS aka Nate. And Shaun created a clone of him, implanted his memories in the clone and put him in the cryo pod.

Its more than just a coincidence Fallout 3 ends with the survivor capturing an alien capital ship filled with alien cryo pods, and Fallout 4 starting out with the survivor in an alien cryo pod. I dont know exactly what that means but there are a few references to this coincidence in Fallout 4.

Kellog (however it's spelled) did say specifically, "... the backup."
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

100% agreed.

Too bad Bethesda won't tell us any information on the SS. I'd really like closure to these theories of them being a synth. I always had a rather odd feeling about Deacon though, as if he was the real Nate.

An interesting theory, but how does it work if the player chooses to play as Nora? Nate replaced before the initial raid or something similar?

In my personal headcannon, Nora is the one who takes the bullet from Kellog and dies whereas it is Nate who lives.

There is more Bethesda concept art on Nate, there is almost none on Nora. Not trying to make any arguments here but I believe in this story, Nate is canonically the one who becomes the sole survivor.

Huh, suppose that would make sense with your theory. Can't say I agree that there is a canon SS given the lack of evidence, but that's something that could be clarified in future titles, if Bethesda decides to clarify, that is.
