Cpu settings help?
Hi guys,
i buy the game yesterday after many years.. (i had a bad pc and can't enjoy the game at the time).
Surprisingly i keep 75fps(i lock them up to my monitor Hz and for freesync) inside and they drop to like 50 or something outside, all on high settings i can even try ultra because it won't change nothing, no loss of fps or gains because of cpu, i wonder what setting i can drop for the cpu to work a bit less, strange thing the auto detect settings won't detect my rx590 and put the settings to low.

("Cpu bottleneck" to begin with until i get the other parts).
Cpu: phenom ii x4 965 be
Gpu: rx 590
8gb ram

Get rid of volumetrics and god rays. Turn down shadows as well.

Ill try that, im sure about volumetric fog and god rays are cpu intensive but shadows? For what i know they impact the gpu(i should try it aswell) because whenever i low the gpu settings most of the times i lose fps and if i crank them up i gain them(is what happens in other games)
Trust me, You don't want Gamebryo engine games to go above 30/60 fps lock. They're locked to low refresh for a reason.

what do you mean? i should lock the fps to 60 for fo4/skyrim? Or maybe 40/50?,i dont care about thise 60 fps bullpoop, if the game wont freeze or stutter im more than happy about the performance, below 30 is kinda a problem

With static shadows they are gpu intensive, with dynamic ones, they hit the cpu as well.

Mess around with settings a bit, find what works for you. Ideally you would just get a new mobo+CPU.

I have no idea what would possess someone to buy a 590 when they are using a phenom processor. You'd be better off going for a 3rd gen ryzen G and using the integrated gpu until you saved up for the 590.

At any rate, your cpu is definitely the bottleneck, but without a mobo change as well, it will remain the bottleneck forever.

As I mentioned reducing volumetrics and god rays. Shadows might help. Should maybe try turning down view distance as well, particularly in the central part of the city, where there is so much going on around with AI.

Dear god yes, lock it at 60. They tied physics to framerate so things start to get screwy above that.

Basically Bethesda have a hard-on for using older versions of the HAVOK engine which has notorious issues with dynamic objects going haywire when the fps goes above a certain limit. (IE: Entering a cell and any non-static object getting thrown all over the room, Characters getting stuck in floors/walls because the prediction is off etc.)

im building a new pc right now and i preferred to buy the gpu first and use it until i get a b450 moba and a ryzen 5 2600 or better if cheap enouth and ram case etc... thing is i choose the best way to start building, my gaming experience grow a lot because of that, better graphics almost zero freezes etc (coming from a 750 ti), i could buy the cpu and moba first but at the end those pieces will take dust until i complete the entire build, so i opted for the gpu first.
Yeah these days it really matters which mobo/cpu you use with what graphics cards because all the big companies want to make sure their hardware runs better on their platform than with others.

I only recently got a gtx 1660 TI which is kind of overkill for FO4 but worth every dime. My old 570 and then 1050 were underpowered as $%^&.

the 970s will run this game too if you can find one cheap somewhere.

I'm the other way around. I've got an okay GPU for most the games my current processor can handle, so I'd rather make the jump to a better processor first, and then save up for a better gpu. I have no problem turning down the visuals for better stability.

I'd rather bottleneck at gpu than cpu. You can do more for a bottlenecked gpu than you can a cpu.

Yeah at first i wanted to do that way, but when i had the 750ti everything were terrible, can't play most games well enought etc, a lot of freezes low fps, some games i must played on windowed 1024x720 😂 or high instability problems, now.. well the difference is day and night even with some minor/unnoticeable bottlenecks.I just close the fps counter when i find a stable situation and forget about it and enjoy the game instead on focusing those fps numbers

hmm im a little confused, because a black phenom 2 shoudend be a bottleneck, my old series 1 coud handle the game with no problems..
for the main problem: do NOT let the fps go above 60, simple matter: the fps is taken as timeframe, so when you let it go higher physics effects can go wield and gaemscripts break.

Yeah, the main problem i think is rather the moba.. an 960GM-GS3 FX.. poorly made, abhorrent mosfets vrm positions run pretty hot, i had to put the home fan to blow into it this summer to prevent stutters etc
Fallout 4 loves the phenom processor architecture. It's quite easy to get 60 fps with. The problem is your GPU. It's too big man. Get something smaller so you don't waste power and create all that heat buildup.

8gb is only sufficient if it's running in dual-channel. Otherwise it's too puny for this game.

It's not worth it to upgrade your entire platform just to satisfy that rx590 pig. Sell it and get a 1050ti and your system will fly.

Well i want to build a brand new system with the rx590 or better in the future in mind, the rx is just the first piece of my puzzle in october ill buy the moba ram cpu and a new case too
If this is your primary game, you're going to want nvidia. AMD isn't as good in Fallout 4. Despite the hardware being good, AMD fails at this one game for some reason. They just never ever cared about this game.

You don't need to future-proof anything. You're playing Fallout at 1920x1080? Future-proof for what?

You want future-proof? Then you will want efficiency. Something the rx590 will fail at again. And you might have to deal with "rainbow graphics". That will be fun.

You could sell that thing and get a refurbished 1050ti like I did. It was only $90! You could potentially make money AND make your PC run this game better.

And that's when the real future-proofing starts. Because your PC would be balanced out and you save money while you enjoy this game.

I had to stop myself a couple months ago. I almost pulled the trigger on a shiny new 3700x setup. Then I came to my senses and realized it was unnecessary, since I'm mostly older games at 1920x1080.

Now I'm saving and lurking. I'm going to bite when it's perfect.
