Minutemen Settlements
Is there a way to force a settlement to become a Minutemen settlement via console commands? I want to choose which ones are part of my army nation.

If you own it, then it is a Minuteman settlement.

Actually, I determined that if you just take over a settlement normally, it doesn't count. You normally only get MM settlements when you listen to MM radio or Preston.

Just kill all inhabitants (Do not bring a companion with you, I think all of them hate it when you do that with the exception of Ada, Dogmeat and Cage which don't give a damn) walk to the workstation and build away.

That's what I do after failing radiant quests.

I believe all settlements taken (assuming you're using the vanilla system and not Conquest or something like that) are automatically assigned in the Minutemen faction. I know this because in my current playthrough I parted ways with Preston and the gang at Concord and never joined the Minutemen, but whenever I take a settlement by assisting the residents, the Minutemen icon appears both when the quest begins and ends, as well as when accessing the workshop for the first time. Also, if you've taken 4+ settlements before joining the Minutemen, Preston will not send you out to get 4 - he will simply skip right to the Castle retake.

all settlements are Minutemen ones exept when you enslave them for raiders or ocupy them for the Brotherhood. also the airport (because Brotherhood Theretory) and the mechanist lair cant be considered Minutemen. if you got more settlements you can see in every one sometimes Minutemen Patrols.

Preston will keep sending you out to take settlements until you own them all. The main reason I leave him in the museum. I will go claim settlements at my pace and order, not his.

He'll keep sending you out, but if you come to him after you claim 4 on your own, he won't make you claim 4 more before giving you the Castle quest.

Right, it takes 4 to trigger the quest. I was not debating that.

It also takes 8 to do the Minuteman ending.

I was simply pointing out he aint going to stop asking for more settlements even after you retake his Castle.

But in a way he does. I am pretty sure this is vanilla actions. The MM quests never end, but it stops being Preston that gives them to you. Once the radio is activated, all future quests come from it. If you turn off the loudspeaker and never listen to the radio you will not get more MM quests. You can get MM quests from your settlers. That never ends.
But, it is safe to talk to Preston after the radio is activated. True?

I do think this is true. You have to get some MM quest to become a "real" MM settlement. Something like rescue a kidnapped settler.

I never noticed that, all settlements seem the same to me. Does it affect the ending or something?
By the way, I took over Egret Tours Marina by killing Phyllis, saying I'm with the Brotherhood, but it still just a normal settlement, right?

The number of official MM settlements only affects the take the castle quest and the ability to do the MM ending. I believe.
