I love it - I AM playing a role, that makes it an RPG to me. I have a few mods installed which really enhance my game play. I love the way you can change pace - from full on combat to building and decorating houses, setting up trade, running my own little empire. But best of all I LOVE that I can make that intensely annoying Preston Carvey walk around in a sequin dress!
i am getting close to 1K hours in the game and have never completed any of the available story lines.
not once.
it's not for the game being too difficult, i am just not persuing the END of the game.
i enjoy playing it and have no desire for the game to END with the completion of any of the story lines.
i am not disapointed with the game.
they have built a frame and made it easy for people to hang items on it, mods.
these mods take the original game and allow you to add small touches, big touches, and in some casses outragious reworking touches of the entire game.
i think it's a great idea on their part and if you think the game sucks it's because you're not willing to mod it to something that works for you.
even the playstation owners can mod the game now that they have added the creation club.
so put a little effort into it, buy all the official DLC's and then add the unofficial patch and spend some more time browsing through nexus, or if your on the play station browse the CC.
it's worth the effort.
Danse endlessly staring at a 200 year old police bulletin board with rotten notes on it.
Ryse browsing 200 year old criminal files, while none of the 3 brotherhood idots leave the police station. Someone got paid to script that crap and someone else got paid more to OK it.
You don't have to play Fallout 4 by their rules.
Do it your own way ...RPG style....I am 200 years old. I fought the Chinese in Alaska. I just woke up to a world full of criminal drug addicted gangs, and people who are trying to set up their own feifdoms in my beloved country. I am the sole survivor of the Apocalypse (besides those treasonous ghouls), and as a military veteran...I alone...have the duty and the right to set the commonwealth straight. The war isn't over, and War....War never changes.
(Too bad they didn't script that point of view as an option, but maybe that hits too close to home eh?)
I killed those mouthy punks in the Cambridge Police station, and now I will kill any Brotherhood upstart I see. Long live the USSA.
I swore an oath to the country when I signed up to fight in Alaska in 2075, and just because I got frozen in a Vault and my family was molested, doesn't mean my oath is abrogated.
Power armor: Check
Weapons: Check
Death to anyone who doesn't pledge allegiance to the flag : Check
Death to any kind of unnatural mutation: Check
Allies: the robots I build
Enemies: everyone else
Where is the Enclave when you need them. That is a cause my 200 year old war veteran could get behind.
The graphics are amazing, especially the modeling. Clearly the artists used their imagination well.
The writing is generally bad to cringe worthy, and the voice acting worse. It's like they hired a high school theater student to do the writing and their parents to the do voice acting.
But if you think about it, life 200 years post apocalypse would suck pretty badly, so I just enjoy wandering around shooting crazy stuff and discovering new stuff. I ignore the fact that life (the writing, the plot, and most of the characters) sucks and that sort of makes it pretty fun and worth the investment.
i have played the game for a little less than 1K hours at this point, and i have not been to eager to complete any of the story lines.
your description that i qoute above is probably a good way to echo my feelings.
i do escape into some of the game i like to play, eve online, ark survival.
then there are the ones i play just for the simple uncluttered goals, PUBG comes to mind.
this game is one that i want to get really involved in and so i make allowances for the effort needed to go into creating short stories with multiple endings and many different way to get to those endings.
so while i am sure that this game DOES NOT SUCK and i am sure that i do really enjoy playing it, i am also glad that there are so many people that are making mods for the game.
and not just mods for grapics changes, over powered 10mm pistols and god-like armor sets, but the other game changing mods.
complete rewriting of some stories, and whole new stories.
interesting companions with shallow but interesting backgrounds.
interesting other items/situations/plot lines.
i could go on at length describing mods, but i think everyone here has spent at least a little time browsing through available mods from different sources, nexus not being the only source but probably being the source with the most varied and the highest number of mods.
with that said my comment to anyone that would actually think that the game sucks and is not just a troll trying for a lot of replies to a message that they have posted would be to tell them that they are taking too narrow of a view of the game.
there are many ways available to mod the game and they are easily available.
and of all the mods available you can't find a way to make the game at least playable, then maybe it's just not your style of gameplay.
i do really want to be snarky and sarcastic here, but i'll save that for another time.
nuff sed.
And I don't even have any of the DLC.
I don't think the game sucks at all - in fact I've been loving it.
