Why does Fallout 4 suck so bad?
I've been playing Fo4 on my ps4 and decided to get it on my PC and mod it. But even with mods the games story line is still very straight forward and hard to escape. Its like there aren't any good mods for fo4. I've looked everywhere for mods that make it more of an RPG but haven't had any luck. What mods are people running to make the game better becasue the story mode and the lack of RPG elements make this game trash.

Just accept the game for what it is, a shooter with settlement building.

Press A for Yes.
Press B for Yes!
Press X for No... ok, yes.
Press Y for Yes in grumpy tone.

lots of great mods on Nexus, as for not being an RPG... not really understanding that complaint.. If you dislike it, blame people who didn't want a totally silent hero..

liking or disliking a game is very subjective,, I happen to think Fallout 4 is great, then again I haven't finished the game yet and nearing a 100 hours.. numerous starts and restarts over last couple of years trying to find the right mix of mods..

I'll just take what I said in another thread -

You cannot lie, you can BARELY influence (if you get one of the extraordinarly dumbed down, limited perks from the perk...thing), your theft doesn't make you a good or bad person - just a thief who will be shot on sight...you're stuck on a very linear path of progression in every aspect of the game that you cannot deviate from in any meaningful way.

An RPG should make me feel like I am a person in a living world - this game does not. I feel like I am in a game, with a world that is largely devoid of anything unless I stumble on a location to kill a bunch of super mutants or some such. Red Dead Redemption, a game that was on consoles and NOT AN RPG, made a more believable, living world and Rockstar did so spectacularly within the computing confines of consoles.

My playtime is mostly me playing with mods that improved everything Bethesda did, because on a basic level, Bethesda left a lot of improving and shaping of the world to the much more skilled, more imaginative, modding community.

Without the mods that Bethesda consistently breaks because of their idiotic paid mod scam, this game is a failure on almost every level barring the uniqueness of the setting. Even the locations, after awhile, all feel the same.

Bethesda wants you to pay for mods - and they release updates that break an essential mod (script extender) whenever they release a♥♥♥♥♥♥update for their♥♥♥♥♥♥game so they can charge you for "original content," a scummy, idiotic, semantic-based scheme to get you to pay ridiculous prices for extraordinarily basic mods on their website.

People railed against this, bethesda said, "Ha, we don't care. Go ♥♥♥♥ yourselves. This isn't paid mods, this is 'original content' despite being, in every way shape and form, paid mods. We don't care if you don't like it. ♥♥♥♥ you fans, and ♥♥♥♥ you any modder who actually has a stitch of integrity and respect for the modding community."

This is a miserable excuse for a Fallout game. The story is trash and obscenely shallow. The "season pass" is basically useless, overpriced ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t. The "building" aspect of the game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ without mods. The gun mod system is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ without mods. The perk system is dumbed down for the lowest common denominator. The graphics are embarrassingly trash for a game with such a high budget (without mods), the animations are extremely limited and mediocre, the character customization is like a "create your own semi-troglodyte figure and pretend it's a human" because of how basic and trash it is without mods, the weapon modding system is♥♥♥♥♥♥without mods, the companion AI and AI in general is obscenely idiotic, the armor and weapon variety is♥♥♥♥♥♥without mods, the dialogue options are basically non-existent, there is no meaningful interaction with any of the companions, and it's buggy as ♥♥♥♥ without mods. Also, all of the quests feel the same, very little imagination went into them. The season pass DLC is also, by and large,♥♥♥♥♥♥

I loved Bethesda before this DESPITE their paid mod fiasco with Skyrim, now - ♥♥♥♥ Bethesda, I know it won't make a difference, but I am never buying their games again.

I strongly recommend checking out Nexus - they have some amazing mods there created by people who love the game, and who are apparently more competent at every aspect of world building, character modeling etc., than the Bethesda team.

from what I understand it's not Beth that breaks the Script Extender but the creator of the script extender wanted the mod to stop working whenever the game was upgraded.. Atleast that's the understanding I got from the information I've seen.

As for the rest of your post, sounds like you're the type that wants change without actual change, and angry about paid mods..

Nah, there is change for the better and change for the worse - this was a change for the worse.

It's unfair to simply slap the word "change" on everything, without differentiating between a desirable change and an undesirable change. If they had expanded on the dialog choices and world building, then I would be all for that change. If they had expanded the modding capability without ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ everyone over, I would be all for that change.

If they added romance options, the ability to lie etc., I would be all for that change.

The changes they made, however, were - dumb down the dialog so much that it's hard to even tell what your character will say when you pick the option, the perks are ridiculously simplified, you're overpowered as hell, there is no karma system...

I want change that improves the RPG elements of the game, not change that simplifies the game because....I don't know why.

@Maximum Sloth

the script extender is especially programmed to break with every game update which changes the executable version number regardless what this update contains.

This hard coded version number check exists for safety purposes to prevent your saves to be unrepairable broken because the script extender team cant know if a update changes something which cause problems like this in combination with the script extender or not until the update is released.

its not bethesda who breakes the script extender, the script extender breakes itselfe and by doing this he works as intended.

things need to get worse before they get better.. maybe the chat system in this game isn't quite up to par with the previous games, but ultimately it's not horrible nor makes the game unplayable.. It is what it is.. It's the cost of having a hero that talks..

why would they have romance options in the game,, this guy was happily married, sure 200 years have passed but he doesn't know that, as far as he knows his wife just died.. Not sure I understand what you mean by lying? You mean the option selected that says you're lying,, you can lie plenty in this game, it's just not labeled that you're lying..

Fallout has never had a Karma system, you're thinking of Skyrim,, Fallout has always been you steal, people try to kill you.. you can steal until your hearts content and nobody cares unless you're caught.. You might be thinking of New Vegas where you could be evil if you joined up to an evil faction.. but stealing, stealing has never mattered..

Maybe the game has far less factions which makes it seem like you have less chance to alter the landscape of the commenwealth.. I suppose that's a bad thing as having more factions means more quest, in this game the factions aren't as plentiful but you still have 5 of 6 of them, they just play a much larger role in the game and the conclusion then they played in the past..

If anything this game has made some things more realistic, like sneaking, in the past, you could sneak with your radio blaring, flashlight on, and most people wouldn't be able to see you even if you were right in front of them.. You could slay a whole base of people while crouched and they'd never see you.. Fallout 4 good luck trying to sneak at all if you have your light or radio on..

Just download FROST and accompanying mods and use that instead. It might not be fully ready yet like DUST but the experience is way more immersive and interesting than the one in NewVegas.
Remember that FO4 is only about a year and a half old. Mods weren't too complicated in the first years skyrim was released, and look at it now. I would give it 2-3 years for the really interesting stuff to come out.

Go get Horizon from the nexus, it's a great overhaul mod that doesn't just change how hard the game is, but it changes everything about the game really. Can't be explained, try it out for yourself. It saved Fallout 4 for me, can't play without it now. It also works extremely well alongside Sim Settlements.
Solomon Hawk Jan 4, 2018 @ 7:23am
OP,
I have to question your definition of RPG.
Seriously.
Do we really need another one of these?
