vault 88 overseers desk glitch
I am on the quest "a model citizen" but even though i built an overseers desk from the special menu, i cannot progress the quest. i can't even find overseer barstow. i tried moving her to me with console commands and nothing happened, tried spawning her in with them and all she does is go on about the bloody desk, when its literally right beside her. i tried to progress the quest with console commands and nothing happens, i have no clue whats up. no matter what i do the quest doesn't progress to the next stage. i even tried assigning her to the overseers desk, but for some reason i can move her like any static workshop item, but i cannot assign her to the desk. she sits in a random chair nearby, but not at the desk.

edit: i'm an idiot, i missed the SECOND voerseers desk in my special tab, bloody mods.

bartsow neds to be able to path to the desk.
NPC pathing is abselute gobshiet if im going to be politically correct.
try placing it in the middle of a room where there is atleast 2 floortiles of free space around it and along its path to it and shell get there eventually.

you could also leave the cell for a while and she will teleport to it.

turns out i had TWO vault overseers desks in the special tab, for some really wierd reason, so i built the second one and that fixed it. no clue why the console commands to progress the quest didn't work though

did you use the console command ''scrapall?

if you did it can break the quest.

yeah, i cannot do the experiments. turns out using a transfer settlements blueprint that early in the quest is a bad idea. ah well, no biggie.

vault 88 is quite unstable sadly so many things go wrong if you dont do it as the devs intended.
the only time its actually safe to build anything in there is when you have finished the entire chain.

Well, my problem was a bit different but it had to do with that dam desk of hers. I made the correct desk for her but once she sat down in the thing she would not progress to the next stage. >.< She just kept repeating the same two lines over and over and it didn't make a bit of difference what I did, she would not budge. I even uninstalled/reinstalled FO4 but that did not fix the problem. I got to the same exact place in the quest line and then she did the same thing so at that point I was furious! Trust me when I say that I tried everything in the book and more to try and fix this bug and it all failed. I figured I would disable ALL the mods I have on there and then run FO4Edit Quick Auto Clean to check the workshop DLC for errors and WOW, it was royally screwed up hard core! Then I thought I would check and see if there was an option to have Steam uninstall the WRECKED DLC and then reinstall it but I didn't see any option to do that but I did find and option to check the integrity of the game files and it found 7 files that was messed up and it repaired/replaced them. So, I loaded up FO4 and that fixed it!!!

I sincerely hope that if anybody runs into this problem as I did that they find and read how I was able to fix it for my self. Not sure if disabling all my mods first before running the integrity check made a difference but thats what I did and it worked perfect. I suspect the issue I had came from a mod or mods but I'm not 100% sure.

I love the mods out there for FO4 BUT, I seriously spend more time on TRYING to figure out the correct FRICKING load order(even though the the person who made the mod gives you that information) and then trying to fix the mess that some of the mods can do to your game.

I hope this helps anybody that is stuck like I was because I know first hand how frustrating it can be. Cheers and good luck on happy gaming.

I can confirm this fixed it for me as well i had used auto clean and it must have removed something i verified and re downloaded the original files and it ran fine no problems with the quest

May 2024 update to this thread:
There are two Overseer's Desks. One under Special, one under tables. Build the one under Special category in your workshop.

Obviously. I mean, he even said he picked the wrong one in the post you quoted. You know, the one from six years ago.

I replied to a post from today. Why did you respond to it? Just because you started the thread doesn't give you any special permissions to post to a thread. If you can post, I can post. Not that it matters in the end, because the thread will be locked.

Besides if anyone bothers to read the actual posts (since most apparently don't bother to check dates), with my comment they will see its a necro'd thread.
