FPS lock tied to refresh rate of monitor
I noticed that my game ran really poorly all of the sudden and activated a FPS counter- the game was capped at 30 fps and it felt horrible, like watching a slide show.

So I googled and found out that the game takes the refresh rate of your monitor and halves it and caps the fps to that- 60 mhz refresh rate 30fps, 144 -> 72 fps etc.

My monitor had reset its refresh rate to 60, probably when I installed new gpu drivers, and that was the reason I suddenly experienced this punishing fps cap of 30.

Now with my monitor´s 165mhz refresh rate my fps are capped at 82.5.
It looks like the fps counter has a seizure because it constantly alternates between 82 and 83 fps in situations where I reach the cap.

Imagine playing this on a 60mhz moinitor with a good rig- it must be terrible! :/

I know the engine is weird and high fps speeds the game up, but that still doesn´t explain why they would cap it at 30 for 60 mhz monitors.

Okay, so why would they do that? How does it make sense to cap the fps to half of the refresh rate? That´s one of the weirdest and dumbest things I ever encountered while playing video games.

This is a feature of one of the Vsync settings in your GPU driver.
It drops to half the refresh rate when it can't maintain max fps to avoid tearing and stuttering.
Adjust your settings to be able to maintain max fps to avoit this issue, or select a different vsync mode.
I picked the old, simple Vsync mode and am playing at solid 60 fps.

what ever you read , it's not true the game does not half your refresh rate ,
the game was made to run at 60fps ,
iFPSClamp=60 added to prefs.ini [display] or in the cusom.ini [display]
should work to lock the framerate where it's supposed to be ,
my monitor is a 60hz monitor so i dont really have to tweak because of a high refreshrate , you should learn how since it's your monitor

Limiting with NVIDIA Inspector is just not possible since there is no Option. Is there a solution for this? I really would love to Play this game and not get a refund for having a too good System. Anybody? =)
that's bs , you dont know what your doing , you have great hardware , but you dont have the ability to use it

Game runs at 60 FPS on a 60 monitor by default without doing anything special (rock solid 60 FPS i must add)

Holy sh*t you were right, thank you! It wasn´t specifically set to that in the nvidia settings but it seems it did chose that setting automatically for FO4 if it was set to the setting that uses the program/game defaults. However it is weird that FO4 defaults to adaptive vsync(half), since when I googled that came up and multiple people had the problem.
Since I have a g-sync monitor I usually turn off v-sync for any game, but I use the game options to do that- but FO4 has no option for v-sync and I never noticed.
Anyways, I forced off v-sync in the settings now and I get uncapped fps.

I´m almost glad FO4 forced me to notice this, I honestly did NOT notice when my refresh rate got set back to 60 from 165. I did notice the 30fps instead of my usual ~60-80 immediately though.
