"Show No Mercy" Major Quest Breaking Bug
I am right now doing the BoS questline and i have just started the "Show No Mercy" quest where you get to board a Vertibird and gun down Mutants. But yeah ofcourse here's the problem, the damn Vertibird is destroyed. After i started the quest by speaking to Elder Maxson, i went down to the Boston Airport because that was where the quest marker was pointing me to, and guess what i found? The Vertibird...and it's destroyed. The Vertibird is in the water (which im pretty sure it shouldnt be in the first place) and it is burning, and when i say that the Vertibird is destroyed i mean it is COMPLETELY destroyed. Somehow though a brotherhood lancer knight (which i presume was the pilot of the vertibird before it was destroyed) is standing right next to the destroyed vertibird, he just acts like any generic BoS NPC, no dialogue options or anything. My theory is that the Vertibird SOMEHOW got shot down by some enemies which in turn has now breaken any means of progressing further through the BoS questline.

I have searched EVERYWHERE for a solution, all i could find was bugs with the mission, but none of which being that the vertibird is crashed and completely destroyed, i only found 2 threads/articles out of hundreds of others with the same problem as i have, and they got no helpful answers.

Please don't tell me i'm basically the only one with this problem.

( Link to one of the only two threads i found with the exact same problem as i have: https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/3spjm2/possible_spoilers_bos_show_no_mercy_quest_start/?st=jbtrn0l4&sh=8a6acd7e )

Are you sure that's the right Vertibird? There are two there I think. If it is... about the only thing you can do is maybe setstage the quest in the console? Check the Wiki for the actual stages, but try to get it as close as possible. And remember, you can only go higher with the stage numbers. You cannot go backwards. So little steps, and save every time before you put in a console command so you know you haven't broken anything yet.

If you look at the screenshots, you can see that the quest marker is RIGHT above the crashed vertibird, there is no doubt that this crashed one is the right one, but ill make sure to double check right now just incase.

EDIT: More specifically, look at the screenshot that is right before the last one and you can clearly see the quest marker right above the crashed vertibird.

Hmmm. Going to have to setstage the quest then. Stage 30 is Kill the Behemoth, so that's probably where you want to start at least. Then just walk/swim on over to the Fort and beat him down. Hopefully this will get you back on track. Just make sure you save before putting the commands in the console so you can roll back.

I can't see any other way to do this btw, since the Vertibird can be destroyed in the fight against the Super Mutants. They didn't make it essential. Wonder who destroyed it that close to the Airport though.

Try traveling there on foot FIRST, before messing with the console. Wiki says this should update the quest and let you continue.

I dont know if it helps, but you can try to manually kill the mutants and see if it triggers the next stage.

btw. This is a known issue and there are other possible fixes for you to try there. Best place to start when you have a quest bug/glitch. Many times you won't even need to post here since the issue has already been fixed by someone else.

Yeah thanks for the help guys, it seems sadly though that i have no option but to use the console, it's a real pain in the ass but i have no other choice. And yeah to quote Mringasa's comment how it got shot down so close to the airbase yeah good question, because i have no clue, although when i fast traveled to the boston airport i did hear a bunch of gunfire and friendly npc combat dialouge, which suggests that it could perhaps be raiders or something that somehow shot down the vertibird.

Raiders??? Now there's a wild card if I ever heard of one. They're not even supposed to be in that area when that quest kicks off.
But, I'm guessing you've got that particular DLC that puts you up with the Raiders (just a guess).
If that's true, you may have just found a "game breaking" bug.

Well Raiders was just an example suggestion, i mean really though who knows.

But yeah now that you mention DLC, i do have the Nuka World, Far Harbour, Automatron and Workshop DLCs installed, so there's a very slight but still possible chance that that could be the problem, either way i have resolved the bug now but i had to use the console.

Why is this a known bug still? Is bethesda not a AAA company?

This is something that happens in almost every playthrough I have. After you talk to Maxon, go back into the command deck. Save. Load that save and walk back outside. The vertibird should now be docked on the left.

It's a minor issue. Multiple ways to work around it, and Bethesda is known to not fix stuff like this. Emogene Takes a Lover, a couple of the Railroad MQs, and numerous other larger quests have the potential to completely break. It's been like this since Day 1. The Unofficial Patch takes care of a lot of them, but there's still a few that haven't been fixed.

Bethesda loves modders because Modders = Free Labor. Props to all those who fix stuff like this for us, can't thank you enough.

Yeah, but I don't trust modders to p*ss in a toilet correctly, much less wipe their a**es when they should nor do I trust them to even find a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ toilet.
Yeah, I remember an Unofficial Patch... fixed a few things, but broke other sh*t and the cute smart*ss who made it left a dayglow eyesore banner in one place you can't possibly miss as his cute little calling card.

And get one thing straight you dimwitted Bethesda bashing moron, free labor ain't quality labor.
You really should go back to Atari or Nintendo when they published consoles.

Would opening the console, clicking the Vertibird, and typing disable then enable do anything?
I'm not an expert on bug fixing, not even knowledgable on it, but if something was bugging out for me sometimes doing the ol' disable enable would at least do something. I would just do that setstage method someone else said, but just wanted to give my 2 cents.

I haven't seen one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mod that didn't break other crap nor corrupt the files of the original game. Pull your head out of where the sun doesn't shine and see the light.
So, if you're one of those self proclaimed god modders, learn how to use a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ install/uninstall wizard.
To this date: NOBODY has had the insight to use it, much less learn it.
Until then, you're just a bunch of nerd rookies who don't know jack about proper modding.
