Why? Look how they manage the limited support along addicted and at the end what happens if its finaly run out and there is no way out?
This experiment will make it so residents are isolated for a long time where they get 24 hours to socialise, stock up for the time they'll be locked in their quarters. If they fail to do so, they might starve in their rooms or attempt to break out. The residents might try to avoid their rooms at all costs and possibly live outside of their quarters. Some residents might be unprepared and accidently get locked in their rooms without supplies.
The only room that doesn't get doubled in time is the Overseer's, their room only stays at the 12 hour durations.
This test is to see the effects of psychological stress and how residents react to each other after their durations of being locked in their rooms.
