Is there a way to get banished from the Institute through console commands?
Would like to start the "banished from the institute" quest without having to kill anyone inside it basically, or is that likely to mess things up?

Not sure, but if you don't want to "Kill" anyone, you can fail the quest during "Underground, Undercover" by taking too long to kill the derpy guards during the bit where you secure weapon parts for the rebels. Just kill all but one of the guards and have him dance around for a few minutes until you fail.

Impossible for me right now so far as I am aware I'm too far along the questlines. I've already made an enemy of the BoS. Wanted to be enemies with them this playthrough anyways. I would like to destroy the Institute with the Minutemen though. But I missed my oppurtunity now I can't really. I mean I'm on "Precipice of War" for the RR right now.

You're gonna kill everyone anyway, why not just like, murder Alana Secord or Justin Ayo?

No point now it doesn't matter anymore past the point of no return with the RR. Even if I get banished I think I'm still on the path to destroy the Institute with them since I completed all of underground undercover and don't neccessarily need back in

Yes, you do need back in, you can fail and be banished from the Institute up until the moment you initiate the final quest which starts WITHIN the Institute itself. If anything, you've hit the optimal time to fail, as with Underground, Undercover completed, you now have access to legendary Railway Rifles.

Yeah actually I was just seeing that on the wiki myself lol. Well, I guess poor old Justin Ayo is about to get his smug face caved in :steamhappy: Minutemen FTW!!! Gonna do the Brotherhood attacking the church mission first though. Let Glory die thinking I'll free all the synths :P

If you do Rocket's Red Glare, you can also get all of Maxson's kit as well.

I was just thinking about that but I think I'd rather destroy the BoS with the Minutemen too. But...Hmmmm.... How do I destroy the BoS with the Minutemen now? I thought I just needed to be enemies with them and speak to Preston but I've been their enemy since Mass Fusion and I've spoken to Preston since but haven't had that conversation appear. Maybe I have to do it with the RR now? Kinda want Maxsons power armor lol think he only wears it in the Minutemen version of killing them... Or... wait. nope. That's the Institute ending I think. He doesn't appear at all in the MM ending come to think of it. I'd still like to kill them with the MM tho not too bothered about Maxsons gear I wouldn't use any of it anyways lol if I reeeeeeally wanted his battlecoat i could console command it lol

If you don't care about his stuff, go ahead and do it with the Minutemen, you're fine as you have it planned out now.

Spoilers:

Destroying the Brotherhood with the Minutemen is pretty Anti-Climactic, as you just kinda shoot the blimp with your artillery (Minimum 5 different settlements with Artillery I think) and then they send a group of Birds and Knights at you in retalliation. Maxson dies on the Prydwen and his corpse is buried and unreachable, as is his great (Perhaps the best unique) weapon and decent coat.

If you defeat the Brotherhood with the Railroad, you infiltrate the Prydwen and either through choice or failing one of the man, many possible speech checks on the airship, kill everyone, Maxson will spawn (After planting the 3 charges and clearing out the main deck) and you'll have the opportunity to take his stuff.

Wear Assassin's armor if you have it, since you'll exclusively be fighting humans.

Dude. I don't want Maxson's stuff xD Like I said if I was hurting that bad for it I'd console command it. I'm more interested in what way I want my story to go. I'd rather kill the BoS with the Minutemen. Wonder why Preston hasn't mentioned it. Oh and btw, I wouldnt be having any speech checks if I did go the RR route lol. The BoS is already hostile to me on sight so the infiltration route ain't an option for me

I know, I edited my post to reflect that if you didn't want Maxson's ♥♥♥♥, your current plan is fine, but I should point out:

The Railroad mission to destroy the Brotherhood still has you infiltrate, similar to New Vegas, you get to use a Brotherhood Uniform to disguise yourself, and they won't attack you (On this mission) Unless you blow your cover or take the Uniform off.

Red Glare is a really fun quest IMO, I think you should make a backup save and just play it at least once.

Oh I've done it before, done all the endings before. And as far as I know the disguise doesn't function if the BoS are actively hostile to you already (As in post Mass Fusion). That's what the Wiki says

The wiki is wrong, as there isn't even a way to get the quest without being beyond Mass Fusion. Red Glare doesn't trigger until you finish Underground, Undercover, which doesn't finish until "Powering Up"

And I say this from experience, as I've done the quest multiple times. What's wierd is not only does the specific BOS uniform work, but ANY BOS uniform works. It's a wierd quirk and a huge mechanic to use only on one mission.
