Can you join all the factions?
I keep finding mixed answers on this. From what I've gathered you can, but only to an extent. The extent being before it starts to ffect other factions. At what point in the quests given to you from the factions does this become a problem? Thank you!

The mass fusion building is the point of no return between the bos and institute and the obviously when your tasked with killing off the rail road they don't like you if you do it

Yes do join and play all the groups as far as you can. At some point you will be forced into a decision about which group of factions will survive. It will be made obvious to you. Until then see and do it all and take your time.

yes.. with 3 of the 4 you will be tasked with destroying 2 of the others...... with the one onone really cares about you can destroy them all setting yourself up as the defacto King\Queen of the wasteland

Spoiler:

You can join and work with every single group, but at one point it becomes one group OR The Institute. The Mass Fusion quest makes you either Railroad/Institute/Minutemen or Minutemen/Brotherhood. Whichever one you choose, those are the only options you'll have for the endgame. I think it's RR/Institute. Can't remember where the breakoff point is for those two questlines as far as the Institute side of things goes.

You can always finish the game with the Minutemen. They are the Yes Man of FO4. Not sure with Nuka World if you can get locked out of the MM, but I think if you go back and kill everyone to do that quest, Preston will be your buddy again.

There is an ending of sorts where you will have the Railroad, Brotherhood, and Minutemen still alive and kicking AND willing to give you all their radiants. It's a semi-complicated thing but there's walkthroughs and such on YouTube for that ending. You end up finishing the game with the MM on that one, but the other two Factions are your friends as well.

The quests to look out for, and the factions they make hostile, are End of the Line (Railroad), Mass Fusion (Brotherhood)/Spoils of War (Institute), Tactical Thinking (Railroad), and The Nuclear Option (Institute).

Ultimately, each faction will try to eliminate two other factions:

Brotherhood: Destroy Institute and Railroad.
Institute: Destroy Brotherhood and Railroad.
Minutemen: Destroy Brotherhood and Institute.
Railroad: Destroy Brotherhood and Institute.

The Minutemen may not require you to destroy the Brotherhood until there's actual hostility between them, but it remains the final stopping point at which everything is resolved as far as possible.

The Minutemen only ever needs to eliminate the institute, not The Brotherhood.
Only if you aggro them will they ever initiate the Defend The Castle quest.

Using mods you can easily avoid killing the railroad or BoS. So you basically choose between the institute and everyone else. It's also possible without mods using console.

You can also join all 4 groups if you use a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of console.

Preston will only properly be your buddy if you do all the Nuka World raider stuff that affects the Commonwealth before you join up with him and accept leadership of the Minutemen. If you do it after that, he'll be sort of okay, but he won't travel with you as a companion (and you'll miss out on getting his companion perk, if you haven't already received it).

You can also just say to heck with the main storyline and refuse to follow through on the Blind Betrayal or Mass Fusion quests. Stopping on both of these will put a halt to all progress of the main story (unless you deliberately attack a faction), since other quests depend on them, or on quests after them.

I think that the point Mringasa was trying to make is that if you do it right wrong they will stop giving you radiant quests, which some people consider amazing tragic.

Not sure which comes first, but if "Pinned" (Institute/Minuteman) comes after "End of the Line" (Institute) then you can also destroy every faction but the Minutemen by siding with MM during "Pinned". Not sure though...

Well, it depends on which one you want. The Minutemen are the only ones who really oblige you to pursue their radiant quest (or get slapped with settlement unhappiness), and you can't get rid of them anyway, while for the others, you can just choose whether or not to ignore their radiant quests as long as you have them available.

I don't remember Blind Betrayal or Mass Fusion being active specifically stopping you from getting regular radiant quests.

Pinned occurs before End of the Line.

Well darn. Forget what I said then.

You don't really need any special arrangements to destroy every faction other than the Minutemen, though. The Railroad in particular you can destroy whenever you like.

No more radiant quests? WHERE DO I SIGN UP! ;)

The #1 reason I wanted, and refuse to play without, an alternate start mod. I hate having unfinished quests in my lists, and any mention of Concord for the first 20 hours or so of a playthrough makes me cringe. Gotta get that Perception Bobblehead though, so it will eventually happen.

If you are working with the MM, and plan on staying with them, you can wipe out the RR as soon as you meet them (you can do the courser chip yourself), you can inititate hostilities with the BoS and then do Defend the Castle later on, and then the Nuclear Option with the MM to wipe out the Institute. The only faction you can't wipe out permanantly is the Minutemen. Even so, you'll still get randoms with the survivors of whatver Factions you destroy.
