What if you never used the workbenches?
I got the idea that if you where never to use the weapon or armor benches in the game then the gameplay would play differently. There is already a system in the game where you can get weapons and armor sets of different stats from each unique enemy (emphasis on 'can') so the game can feel a bit like Diablo with all the random loot, and because you aren't going to the work benches to upgrade your equipment to the max possible you would likely be constantly changing your equipment about. If you do decide to not use armor or weapon work benches then it would be best to do so on a fresh playthrough to get the most out of this playstyle, and I wonder if there is a way to disable the use of these work benches. Penny for your thoughts?

You must use the workbench for a couple of Main Quests. Otherwise it can be done. In fact you can play the game with:

Survival mode
No Perks
No Purchases
No Crafting
No Cooking
No Workshop
No Power Armor
No VATS
No Fast Travel
No Quick Save
and No Companions.

and some real diehard fans do the one life mode. I haven't gotten this crazy yet, but i have always gone no companion and no purchasing. And no power armor. I tried a no hud run too. Worked fine until i had to pick stuff up and didn't know where to aim. And my thieving suffered considerably when not using a hud.

Tweaking the game this way makes my head hurt, theres better survival simulators.. The main problem with FO4 is you can't turn off the XP, you can not cap yoursefl at a level, you can't reduce the XP of kills or quests.

Even without Perks and stuff under a no level cap system, eventually, you reach God Hood.

In normal play on highest non survival sifficuly this starts to be the case at around level 20-25.

love benches, don't have armorer or gun nut but I collect weapons and strip them to base all except my main gun, with bench I then add all those mods to my main gun. So my my sniper rifle has large mag, recon, long barrel etc, even though i'm current just lev 12.

Eventually. But in that video he's taking on Kellogg and later a Red Skull Deathclaw using only the weapons and armor he can find, with no perks to increase his damage or resistances at LvL 15.

And imagine Survival mode using only the antibiotics you can find and no doctors.

Just killing the Deathclaw at lvl 2 without using the Power Armor is not an easy task.

That's pretty hardcore.

Using the benches are cool but I've played the game long enough to see the value in not using the benches. Have you really been playing Fallout 4 for the length of time Steam has on record Xyzzy?
