what is a install directory?
does that mean your data folder?

The install directory would be something like C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4

Be extremely careful while choosing your game install directory. I'm very new to the PC world when it comes to computers, but I found out installing games in the Program directory which seems to be too highly protected, administration rights and all, was a mistake until I moved everything being game related into a freshly created 'game' folder. And I have zero games problem from now on.
