Local saves not showing
I've played this game since launch with 0 major issues, aside from the usual random crashing or freezing. now, however, my saves don't get recognized. The folder on my C:\ drive with local saves has all 76 files, but when I launch FO4, "load" is grayed out, and it doesn't even recognize those saves. Anyone else have this issue and have any idea what to do?

Also, if using a mod organizer and/or a mod manager might check that the paths are correct. If the saves are corrupt you might get (first time viewing) "unidentified location" but aside from that you should just get a "corrupted save" message if the save(s) are corrupted.

Any chance attributes were changed on the directory? Write-only?

I doublechecked attributes. even added "everyone" as a user to the folder and gave them full control. I use no mod manager, and the only mod i use is a 1kb mob that modifies Jet pack AP drain, and even with removing the mod completely, nothing. Bethesda finally emailed me back and basically told me if uninstalling and reinstalling it doesn't work, i'm just out of luck lol.

Discovered the issue. After updating, Onedrive arbitrarily set itself as the default storage for "Documents". so when fallout queried for a folder in "my documents", it got redirected to the Documents folder in Onedrive, which had no saves in it obviously.

Glad to see you got it sorted out.

How do you switch it back to look in the correct directory please, I'm having this exact issue

Not using that app is a good start.

I have a similar problem, I have 2 steam account on my PC, I created saves on my main Steam account, continued using them on my 2nd account no problem. A few days ago I boot up the game on my main account, no saves, but if I boot up my 2nd account, the saves show up.

You dropped the game?
I found a solution for this problem wich helped me, right now...

The savegames where in my saves directory.
After starting Fallout 4 via mod manager, it loaded up the game.
Just ingame i could't load my saves, the load button was greyed out.

Then i did go back to my saves directory and i noticed, that suddenly all my saves had just 11 kb. O.o

So i took them from my external SSD back into my Saves folder, started the game, and then the same happened.. wtf O.o

I figured out, that my German Antivirus Program "Gdata" anyhow changed those savegames from more than 18 or 11 mb each save, down to 11 kb.

I disabled the Gdatas background watch, (disabled both tools) and then copied over my saves again, started the game and it worked.

The problem is, i used Gdata before in Windows 8 and windows 10 and never had problems like that. Just on Windows 11, Gdata seems to change those files.

If you don't use Gdata Total Security, maybe your antivirus program on Windows 11 would do the same. Please if you read this take a look at your savegames if they also have just 11 kb.

So i disabled the background antivir from Gdata and i could play also load and save the games. it seems it deletes or changes the files when you are in the main menu, the files in the directory simultaniously get deleted (down to 11 kb)

Greetings,
Khajiirah.

This was my problem too. Although mine was 2 kb. I do not use the same antivirus.

Don't know how many saves I lost this way, but latest working save (stored elsewhere) is 3 years old.

At this point in time, there's really no reason I can think of to run any third-party antivirus programs. The built-in Windows stuff is perfectly fine, and it doesn't hose you over and use up a lot of CPU cycles.

Did you find a solution? My saves also change to 5 kb. They were fine just a few days ago.

My fallout 4 worked fine last evening, now 9 hours later there is no saved game, only a steam_autocloud.vdf. Only thing that changed is steam did an update just now.
My first playthrough, just got the sneak bobblehead too.
