Title.

Will it be too frightening for my son?

Edit: He's been exposed to some violent games. I'm currently just wondering how bad it is on a physiological scale.

Saw some videos on youtube earlier, it shows a person got burned to a pile of ash and sometime become a pile of goo.
The other video shows a person got blown to bits with its' ribs and eyes splat everywhere when showered with bullets.

So yeah, i don't think this game is good for kids. I think this game should be rated 22, not 18.

Edit: I youtube again and found some video with extremely sexy and kinky girls in it. I don't understand why there is no "sex" tag on the store page.

Shut the ♥♥♥♥ up, jeeze, why do you even have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ steam account? Do you not research games or have any idea about the content by itself? Get the ♥♥♥♥ out of here

I don't think this game is appropriate for 15yos but of course that won't stop teens from playing this.

There are a lot of elements to this game that are very graphic and sensitive that are not presented in any way that encourages the player to think critically about them, and that makes it not the kind of stuff you ought to hand a kid who hasn't really had the chance to develop critical thinking skills and is still trying ot make sense of life in general and say "Have fun!" This is a larger problem with entertainment in general, in that we don't encourage kids to develop skills to make critical choices about ideas and impressions they are consuming just by engaging in various media, like games. A 15yo kid really can't put Maxson's authoritarianism into a larger context, for example, or how Super Mutants locations frequently suggest they are eating human children and babies, or how Raiders by default when call you a "little b*tch" constantly or certain NPCs make sexist comments to you if you choose to play a female char. This is beyond gore, violence and any sexual content. It's the larger appeal of being in this fantasy where you can exert power over things and people is ways you cant in the real world, and often through ways that IRL would be morally questionable, and whether you are able to think critically about how it impacts you once you leave that fantasy.

I saw the (real) Japanese version "The Grudge" on DVD release (was 11 then). Halloween, Blade, Carrie, American Psycho, The Blair Witch Project etc.. Played Resident Evil & DOOM 1 on PS1 when I was 6. This may be a biiit unsual, most kids get's to do this.

But anyway, your son is 15 years old. He's waaay old enough to play this game :)
Just in general, parents of today's world are sooo over protective.

I can't watch the Japanese versions of the Grudge or the Ring unless it's at noon in full daylight. I laugh my butt off at the American versions.

You haven't met my mom and I grew up in the 80s. I couldn't watch Three's Company (did anyway when she wasn't there) because of the sexual overtones of a man living with two women.

@FabulousShawn - If you want to see how the game really is, I recommend you find the Youtuber named "Oxhorn" as he presents numerous videos on Fallout 4. Yes he had modded the game with boobs/butt mods, but fairly tame compared to others. I've got a lot of male mods on mine.

On a final consideration, the main character can be bi-sexual as you can romance different companions to get their perks, and can get the "Lover's Embrace" temp perk when you sleep with one. Granted it fades to black, but still you have to consider if you want your child to know about alternate lifestyles.

Everyone seems to either be using themselves at 15 or some " average " 15 yr old.

In this case no matter what they decide the parent knows best !

15 yr olds can be VASTLY different for any number of reasons. IE, ....

Part of the world they live in, income levels, home schooled, private schooled, male or female and sadly race.

I wont go into any detail but without knowing this child or the parents/family theres no way we can decide what the parent can do. Yes we can offer our opinions and personal experiances but the final decision is based on the above factors.

The thread has brought up some intresting comments, besides the 1 troll who will soon be banned and its comments deleted.

Not sure which part 'decided' in the OP is about but these are my two cents.

1 - FO4 is 'adult' rated primarily due to gore. That said, it's cartoonish, but the scenes can be a little disturbing. There are some ground rules in the vanilla game (mods... see point 2) that keep it more towards being OK with adolescents though; there's flirtation and sexual content, but it's not displayed. A FO4 'sex scene' is literally an agreement and fade to black, then fade back in, fully clothed. There's no nudity, all characters are equipped with a set of indestructible, unremovable underwear. Child characters in FO4 are apparently sacrosanct, they cannot be visibly injured or killed. Jump scares are not overt, they're generally lead up to with atmosphere and end up being something reasonable for the atmosphere. But gore is everywhere.

2 - Mods are unlimited. This is something to watch for with any game, on any modern platform. I'm sure I could look online and find a mod to Tetris that would make it positively pornographic.

3 - FO4 can be a deeply psychological game and it is almost completely open to interpretation and player action. With that in mind, keep track of how it's being played, and you'll gain insight into what's being thought. You can be the biggest polly-ana superhero in the world, or you can be the most evil supervillain ever imagined. Kind, cruel, it's all optional.

4 - From my own upbringing... breaking the 4'th wall from the outside is probably the best way to prevent any lasting damage from horrific movies and gory video games. *None of it is real*. Once you can watch the worst of the worst shoot-em-up bloodfest of a B movie and realize that at the end of the day, all those dismembered corpses got up, took a shower, and went home intact with a paycheck, then it no longer has any real power. I had a Fangoria subscription when I was a kid, not even sure they're still in print or are still the mag they used to be, but they had in-depth coverage of the special effects methods used and that's a big tool in popping the gore-fantasy bubble.

5 - FO4 is single player, period. To be honest, multiplayer online gaming is the worst cesspool on the planet for a kid to get launched into, so even with the gore and deep thinking psychological play, FO4 is much, much 'safer'.

Expanding on point 3... watch some gaming and every so often ask why a decision was made. Encourage deeper examination, because ethics, scruples, and morals come under *deeep* scrutiny in parts of gameplay. Very little (on the human end) is completely black and white when it comes to good vs. bad, asides from the usual 'instantly hostile' raider and gunner factions. You've got 4 groups to choose from and each has good and bad points to them... some points you don't uncover until you go digging, and I know of at least one case where you can absolutely turn your stomach if you discover these things *after* casting your lot (I won't spoil that). There are 'Sophie's choice' levels of decisions, actions with permanent consequences, 'Trolley' scenarios, and so on.

It's why I hate seeing players just skimming the surface without thinking about what's going on, they're missing the real game.

every kid is unique. As is every parent. Do you feel comfortable with your kid playing games with this kind of violence? For me the violence and language is not a problem, but sexual content would be. Why? I do not know. It is kind of weird that parents feel this way. As for my kids, they use to watch my character get blown to smithereens when they were 8 or 9 years old. Game violence is like cartoon violence.

No, you see, that is a mod, it is not part of the actual game. Normally when there are sexual themes at all in this game then the women are fully clothed and it's just references, not full frontal nudity or playboy posing or anything like that.

Don't know your kid. If he's a typical 15 year old in 2016, he's probably already seen stuff that would give YOU nightmares. Welcome to the internet age.
Made me break a smirk
+1

Note; I was playing Killzone 1 on console back when I was 9 - and I had no internet at my house until I was 13.
I can only imagine this is exposure in tenfold, if more, these days.

Tip: Giant Bomb does a Quick Look (actually a rather long look). Go watch that and decide that for yourself.

And in case you are wondering: there is no nudity in the game, and the violence isn't very realistic. And it's not a horror game.

Appropriate for a 15 year old? I would say that depends on the child and on the parent.

the reason there is no "sex" tag is because those are mods and they are optional
By optional i mean that you have t go on nexus and download them

OK, I'm a parent, my lads have grown up now............

The very LAST people I would ask about something like this would be you lot (Not that I would need to ask at all, because I would just use my common sense).

(No offence intended you lovely lot)

And yeah we all played Doom, Quake, etc back in the day and they were young, and they actually turned out normal.

I would say yes, he should be fine. I played Fallout 3 at 12-13~ and there wasn't anything wrong with that then. Although i will say that Fallout 4 is quite different to how 3 was. But most 15 years these days should be fine playing MA-R rated games. Hell, i played GTA:SA and Scarface when i was younger, although who didn't play SA.

I agree with that to some point that kids can have different needs, however the guys still nannying a 15 year old who's probably in a couple of years is going to be old enough to drink, smoke, drive, gamble, die for their country etc.

I could smell the resentment from here when he tells him he's not allowed the game...
