Or more specific: at which point of the quest are you stuck? And did you end the previuos quest correct by speaking with Ellie?
Edit: and while you at it, speak with Mum Murphy, she might have a clue about where to find a certain key... ;-)
But glad you've got it running now..
If you are using a mod that changed things you may have to read the posts other have made at its page and of course the information provided by the mod author they may have changed how you do things in regards to that quest or gaining access to the institute.
edit: and did you listen to the holotape?
My solution:
Download "Getting a Clue Quest Fix" at https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/41471. Then use console command "setstage MQ105 30".
My context:
Honestly, I have no idea what is causing this bug. My best guess is that I've downloaded some story overhauls like Project Valkyrie & Depravity. However, this bug has existed before the creation of those mods. So this could be just another "feature" of Bethesda's.
Regardless, the result is the same. Nick just sat at the opposite table and flatly refuse to talk to me. By downloading the mod above, I completed "Getting a Clue" quest and made Nick become my companion once more.
I do hope this solution works for you as well. If anyone knows what's causing this bug, I'd be happy to know.
You're a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SAINT thank you!
