How to build a house??... grrrrrr.
I am having so much trouble building my first home from scratch. I use the concrete prefab base with wooden floor. Now i can put walls around the area i placed the foundation.
Now i would like to divide the interior into rooms using walls. Now the problem is that i cant place roofs... They align with the walls instead of being on top of the walls. So basically i can only make a big gym hall :((
What am i doing wrong?

I'm terrible at it too. This guy has dozens of videos and I learned a lot from them, including how to use the rug glitch and other tricks to get things to look proper. I'm sure he's probably got a video that will help you.

Shack walls are a bit painful to use. Barn and Warehouse walls (if you have DLCs) behave quite nicely though.

Best way to create interior walls is to place first one of them for outer walls, before you close outer walls. Interior walls will then snap nicely forward from the starting point.

If you are using floors and planning on adding new walls, then store one of the floors to workshop, snap walls to floors around the empty hole and then snap it back. All standard floors will snap nicely in to place. Supported floors are somewhat tricky to handle.

Roofs are best to place from either directly below, or from above. I often go inside the building, bring the roof from Workshop, rotate it with mouse to match the location and then take one or two steps back. This will usually allow roof to snap in place properly. I also often use ladders. Snapping roofs in place from them is a lot easier than from ground level.

Shack doorways are only for exterior walls. You can't use them inside, unless you elevate the building with second set of floors - which is actually doable, but it isn't usually worth of fuss.

Again, warehouse and barn tiles work in more sensible way. Doorways work in both interior and exterior properly, because they are at the same level with other wall pieces.

Hopefully those videos linked above are help to you. If not, then I can take few screenshots tomorrow, when I continue bulding Starlight.
