Instigating, Mighty and Freezing are also extremely good options.
Mighty is okay, but kind of generic, while freezing and wounding both do their best with a weapon that makes a lot of hits, rather than than one that delivers a single big hit.
Kneecapper is the one you mean there. Crippling heavily boosts limb damage in general, but doesn't have a chance to auto-cripple.
I agree that kneecapper is great with automatics, though I haven't seen as much effect from it on multi-hit weapons recently, despite seeing this in the past (maybe they changed it at some point, or some multi-hit effects don't deliver it properly).
