Overencumbered All The Time
I've never played a Bethesda RPG before. I've joined the Brotherhood of Steel i think its called and have begun to clear out the college campus. I read a tip about picking up EVERYTHING one can while exploring. I guess because my strength stat is so low I get overencumbered a lot. What type of items am i expected to sell? I have sooo much random things and Trudy at the Diner doesn't seem interested in many of the items, like the 300cap bobblehead for instance. Do I only trade apparrel and weapons? Do I stuff the garage full of all my items I'm not using? I guess they won't disappear, right?

Stash junk at your settlement that's your main crafting hub. Sell most guns and keep a few good ones. Ammo has no weight so keep it unless caps are an issue. Chems you might want to keep. Misc items can be stored.

No settlement storage is safe and won't reset but maybe use a small one with no settler ncps to stash guns because settlers will take weapons from crates.

Stash your junk at your crafting table, they will automatically be made into materials when you need to build stuff for your settlement. (There's a function to transfer all junk, just look for that.)

And it should solve your over-encumbered problem.

I play on survival, which makes carry weight a huge hassal. Don't carry around useless weapons you never use, store junk whenever you can, have grilled radstag handy, use a companion to store junk, take lone wanderer and dogmeat if you don't use a companion, etc. Having low strength can ruin you, but you shouldn't have problems if you aren't playing on survival mode.

There are strength perks for those who like to carry around lots of stuff. Strong back 4 lets you fast travel when you have tons of items, so you can be raiding areas, storing everyting in 1 container that you can grab when you are finished and ready to head back to drop off your loot. Very very helpful in the game if you have the strength built up for it.

dont know if they fixed it but when the game came out I would drop stuff on the floor and tell companion to pick it up, was never full they just keep carrying more and more fast travel back and empty and repeat.
overcucumbered

that aside you might just wanna try mods that modify your carry weight, if youdon't mind breaking the "immersion"
