F4SE 1.10.40 build 0.6.3 version not working
ok so i downloading and installed the latest version of F4SE and as far as i can tell it does not work. When i go into the game (at the game menu btw) and i open up the console and type the command "get F4SEversion" i get command not found after hitting the enter button. i have fallowed F4SE installation tutorial instructions found on youtube to the letter and cannot figure out why F4SE is not working. I have the latest version of fallout 4, it is a clean install with no mods installed whatsoever, and as i said the latest version of F4SE itself. I have tried looking around the net on various forums concerning issues with F4SE and have not been able to find any solutions that directly relate to my issue. I am not sure what else to do because there is nothing else that could be causing my issue. Any help is appreciated thanks.

remove the f4se_loader.exe , f4se_steam_loader.dll , and f4se_1_10_40.dll fromm the game folder ,
add those from the F4SE 1.10.40 build 0.6.3 package you downloaded ,
they dont over write if you update from and older f4se version (10.26) you have to remove the old ones ,
you can check your f4se log to see what's failing (it's with your save files )

Biggest mistake is usually putting the F4SE files in the data directory instead of the Fallout 4 directory.

Second most common is not starting the game with the f4se_loader.exe instead of the game launcher.
acetually i launched with it my top fiive menu worked just fine. but i do launch fo4 onve thru the loader after a new comes out

what's " top fiive menu" ?
yes, launch the game via the f4se_loader.exe (i run it with admin privileges)

First thing is if you have previous version of F4se remove it from game then load newer version.(if you have one)
F4se folder will be in game data.
Open and read the 'read me text'.
Highlight the 'three files' stated and move them to game main page.
Click of F4se_loader to start game

3 files are
f4se_1_10_40.dll
f4se_loader
f4se_steam_loader.dll

i have done exactly as everyone has suggested when initally installing f4se and it does not work. i do not know what else to do.

My suggestion is to make sure you remove it all from your game. Redown load it from
Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE)
f4se.silverlock.org/
Installer not working, use 7zip. (not updated)

Right click on DL and open it
Transfer folder to game data
Then continue as I mention above

the f4se folder in data should only have a plugins subfolder with the .ini's/.dll's for installed mods using the script extender) , and a f4se.ini file (not in the plugins folder) ,
f4se_loader.exe , f4se_1_10_40.dll and f4se_steam_loader.dll should only be in the main game folder , not installed at all in the data>f4se folder

you are launching the game with f4se_loader.exe right ?
open the f4se.log file in your docs>games(?) > fallout4 folder , where the games save files are , what does it say ?
set the permissions to admin for the loader too

If you read my post that is what happens you place those three in the main folder. If you use the this method or the installer for F4se it will add the folder to game's data, you have to then place those dll's and loader in the main game folder.
Only difference between the two is the installer (when working) adds a uninstaller to the game main page, making removal easier a one click operation.

dont do this , just save it to your desktop , open and extract(7zip, winrar) the files to "drive:\steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4 "
if asked to over write say yes .
that will put everything in the right place .
if your updating from an oder version of f4se(10.26) you need to remove the .dll's (2) and the .exe for the old f4se , they will not be over written , you have to do it

ok i am using a 100% clean install of fallout 4 as in after i uninstalled all of my mods, uninstalled fallout 4 itself, i wiped the fallout 4 directory from the install location. currently there is not installer version for f4se only the zip file which i downloaded, unzipped, and copied the contents from the file to the fallout 4 directory. i am using the f4se_loader.exe to run fallout 4. however when i load it the fallout 4 steam menu pops up and i have to press the play button in order to run fallout 4 even though i am using the f4se exe. there is no plugins folder or f4se ini's in the data folder only scripts, videe folders, and the bsa's ba2's and other such files. the f4se download itself does not come with any plugins that i can see when downloaded from the site; just a data folder, src folder, 3 text files, 2 dll files and the exe file. is the download itself missing anything?

you have to run fallout 4 with the regular loader 1st so the game builds the .ini's and sets the options before you use f4se_loader.exe .
you need to have a fallout4custom.ini with these lines in it

[Display]
iLocation x=0
iLocation y=0

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

[Launcher]
bEnableFileSelection=1

if you dont have it , just make a new text document and name it Fallout4Custom.ini
so start the game normal , let it build the .ini's and set the options,
then install f4se as i said ,
if you have steam cloud enabled for the game turn it off , it will try and re-install the game to the last cloud save , so it's probably all screwed up , dont use cloud save for games you mod

take your time , dont get frustrated , maybe have a cup of tea and play with the dog or cat for a few mins to reset yourself

already done all of that forget to mention that in the first comment
