NMM Plugin Troubles
Good evening fellow Nates & Noras,

I recently got my PC back after a harddrive failure and I've encountered several problems with getting my game back up and functioning with the use of NMM, F4SE etc.

So basically my data was all saved but transferred onto new harddrives. I've managed to fix most of the problems with reconfiguring it to work again. My current issue is not something that I've found on forums so I thought this would be the place to ask.

I've downloaded some simple mods to test their functionality but they don't appear in the plugin column, despite being located and activated on the mods tab. Some of them have installed properly and can be found in the plugin section, such as AWKCR and Armorsmith, but the others are nowhere to be found.

I am not really sure where to look. Weirdly, when I look through my NMM folder (My Document/Nexus Mod Manager) there is just an empty folder, are they being sent somewhere else as I can't find them?

My Steamapps directory is on a separate drive, is this a possible factor?

Thanks and sorry if this is uninformative, I can provide some more info if needed.

Update #1

Just some additional information about the paths. Fallout 4 is actually in two places on my PC, again I'm not sure if this is the norm, I can't remember my setup before I sent this machine away.

Firstly it's found here: ThisPC/Documents/MyGames/Fallout4. This folder contains two folders: F4SE (with 3 loaders inside) and Saves. The other documents here are:

Fallout4
Fallout4Custom
Fallout4Custom.ini
Fallout4Prefs.

Next, my Local disc has other files through Steam:

Local Disc (C)/Programfiles(x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout4.
This is a much fuller folder with all the launchers, custom info, f4se files and the like.

Again, if any more info is needed for help then get in touch.

If you haven't already. I recommend asking this on the Nexus forums. You'll have much better luck over there.

I really need to write this crap down! I'm not the one to help you with this but, there are at least two other players on the forum that can. I would think that they will see this thread later and may be willing to help.

I only have 1 drive so I've never had NMM, the game and My Games on separate drives.

You need to get your Virtual install of NMM on the same drive as the game/steamapps and your My Games folder.

Ok man, thanks, I will give that a try first.

You're welcome. Sorry I can't remember the path you take to do it. I Really need to write this crap down!!! Good Luck. :)

First of all, it doesn't really matter what drive letter you install the NMM app on. What DOES matter is where you tell NMM to put the Fallout 4 VIRTUAL install.

Ideally, the virtual install should be on the SAME drive letter as your Fallout 4 GAME folder. NMM seems to work better this way.

However, you can choose to have the virtual install on a DIFFERENT drive letter than your game. This option is usually for someone with an SSD and HDD - the game folder would be on the SSD for faster loading and the virtual install would be on the HDD to conserve space on the SSD. In order for this to happen, you MUST enable Multi-HD install in NMM and you MUST run NMM as Admin. While NMM will gladly let you do this, it can be a little buggy with this configuration. You'd have a lot less headaches if you have the virtual install and the game folder on the SAME drive letter.

The GAME FOLDER is defined as " /Steam/Steamapps/Common/Fallout 4/ "

That other location you listed " /Documents/my games/Fallout4/ " would be where your ini files and Saves are located. This will ALWAYS be on your system drive C:\. If you have it in ANY other place, such as on OneDrive, your game will NOT work properly.

Lastly, you might have to run NMM as ADMIN all the time, regardless. If you're having trouble with invisible objects in your game, I'd first try to re-install my mods while running NMM as Admin.

Ok so I've started to run NMM as administrator. Enabling MultiHD is working but I am unable to set the virtual folder in the place you suggested, it just comes up with a blinking exclamation mark

You can't set the Virtual Directory equal to the following:

HD Root C

Game Folder - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4
Mods Folder - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4

Any thoughts on adapting this part?
Thanks anyhow for the suggestion, I appreciate the time you took covering the bases.

i think nmm is dead on support
i have issue with it after i moved the main game folder
i suggest u try manual installation
then run LOOT to sort the mod order to prevent startup issue
NMM is indeed dead on support but it still works flawlessly. Additionally, the development team is actually putting a replacement of NMM into development using Electron framework (which I'm really looking forward to, as I used the framework before and it looks gorgerous), and they're calling it as Vortex.

regarding to op's problem:
in nmm, go to settings, check whether if the fallout 4 directory is correctly pointed. Additional info: mod directory is the storage directory to store the downloaded mod in archives. Install info on the other hand stores the information of installed mods.

So what drive letter is your game on? What drive letter is your CURRENT virtual install on?

Hi,

So my mod directory is this:
C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\Fallout4\Mods

Install info:
C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\Fallout4\Install Info

Fallout 4 Directory
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4

I assume this is correct and functional?

I've just looked in my documents and I have found this part to be missing a Fo4 part:

Mydocuments/NexusModManager/
(This folder only contains a LOOT folder and a VirtualInstall folder) The LOOT folder only has FalloutNV in it, nothing else. The virtualinstall folder has an overwrites folder and a VirtualModConfig file. I hope this helps in the diagnostic!

So I believe that my current game files are on the C/ Drive, that's where I have the bulk of Fo4 material (loaders, config files, F4SE) etc. I also have some data on "This PC", in ThisPC/My Documents/My Games/Fallout 4. THIS folder contains 2 folders (F4SE & Saves) as well as some config/text files called Fallout4, Fallout4Custom, Fallout4Custom.ini and Fallout4Prefs.
ronr42 Oct 5, 2017 @ 7:23am
OP, I still can't help with your 2 drives issue, but I have a question.

What is in your Fallout4Custom.ini? You added the 3 lines required for nexus mods to work, right?

Also, you seem to have one too many "Custom" in your My Games/Fallout 4 folder. Why, I don't know.

In my My Games Fallout 4 folder I have Saves, Fallout4.ini, Fallout4Custom.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini. There is no Fallout4Custom.

I do not use F4SE, so I don't have the F4SE folder.

Edit; Twice you typed you have Fallout4Prefs is in your My Games/Fallout 4 folder. You do have file extensions enabled because you see the Fallout4Custom.ini[the .ini part displays]. So, my question is, do you have .ini at the end of Fallout4[.ini] and Fallout4Prefs[.ini]?

OK, so as of right now, your GAME folder and your Virtual Install are on the SAME drive letter. If this is NOT what you want, you will have to UNINSTALL, yes uninstall, every single mod.

Then create a path on the drive where you want the virtual install to be. Something like D:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\Fallout4\Mods. Now launch NMM as Admin, click the TOOLS icon and select "Change Virtual Folders..." Make sure you enable "Multi-HD install" and then change the "Virtual Install" to the path you created above by navigating to it.

Exit NMM and then launch it again as Admin. Hopefully it won't complain or give you an error message. If all is OK, install ONE and ONLY one mod, preferably something that you can easily verify if it's working. Launch your game and check if the mod works. If yes, exit the game and install a few more mods in SMALL bunches, checking your game each time.

Keep your fingers crossed XD.

Hey,

My Custom.ini contains the following:

[Display]
iLocation X=0
iLocation y=0

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

No, I don't have ini after each one, only after one of the Fallout4Customs(so I have a Fallout4Custom which is a "configuration settings" type, and a Fallout4Custom.ini which is a text document.

Update #2

Very quickly, thanks for everyone who is helping so far.

I've been scouting around for more files and data to pinpoint the cause of the problem here.

SOME of the mods I download are correctly working. For example, Lowered weapons & armorsmith. They are visible on the plugins tab and ticked. Some are not, they are visible on the mods tab AND activated but the plugins are missing (and I'm only using generally smaller mods as examples for the time being for obvious reasons).

Anyway, I don't know if this will be of much help but I managed to find my NMM folder
(ThisPC/Documents/NexusModManager) which has LOOT & Unistall folders inside, and now a "Fallout4" one as recommended to be SuperSledge (thanks again!!!). Inside here is virtually nothing, but on another path (Local Disc C/ Games / Nexus Mod Manager) I have a Fallout4 folder, containing Install Info and Mods folders. Inside the mods folder are 6 typical folders and then a load of WinRar files of the mods I've downloaded. The cache folder contains all the folders of the mods I have installed too, not the WinRar files but still some files and data for each one.

Sorry for the length, trying to be as concise as I can to help everyone help me. Cheers!
