Preston Garvey emitting strange sound?

Well, thought it'd be fun to get a BFG 9000 from the CC. I put an electric door on my workshop/armory thinking settlers etc. couldn't get to my gear. Well Preston Garvey got in there by teleporting through the walls somehow. He stole the BFG 9000 and all it's ammo. While I was looking for the gun I noticed a strange sound. Finally I traced it to Preston! Traded with him and low and behold he had my gun. But now he emits this sound any time I get close to him. I tried letting him fire a round out of the BFG 9000, the sound went away for a few seconds and was back. I tried disabling him and then enabling him again, no fix. This is bizzare! The sound is pretty loud and it's hard to hear him while getting missions and such. I'd hate to dump a level 50 character to restart my game over this. Any help?

Preston is a minuteman grunt that sends his general out to do all the dirty work. What made you think you could trust him?

The first mission he sends you on is a setup. Go talk to the people at 10 Pines BEFORE he sends you there. They are friendly, and may ask you for help. After Garvey sends you they come out pointing guns at you. My guess is the back stabbing son of a female dog tells them you're on your way there to kill them.

There is a bug with sounds at times, it seems like that's happened to you. I'm not positive there's a real good fix to this, but you might want to search over on the wikia and / or the nexus mod site for anything.

I once had a gun going off slightly under the ground near one of the Gunners encampments, and you could hear it from way far off, so yeah I know how annoying that can be.

Thanks Zekiran, will look there. Well in the interim I tried recycleactor on Preston. He is now emitting that noise in his underwear... Good thing I can console him a new set of clothes.

You have to use a cork from a crystal decanter and shove it (use "E" key) where it will damper said sound.
