There's always the one smartass
Maybe it's the only number he knows? Or he's speaking in powers of...?
If you play a female, Nate is the canon male character. If you play a male, Nora is the canon female character.
Nevertheless, one may always call their character Nate or Nora.

Wait. So the LW is NOT canon or just not confirmed one way or another
For Example: The Vault Dweller(F1) Is confirmed because you play as their child in F2. The Chosen One(f2) is confirmed as existing by Markus talking about him directly in New Vegas. The Courier is confirmed to exist because He was the cause of The Divide and links certain events from F2 to NV.
But the Lone Wanderer? Not a single sole mentions him. Not the BOS, Madison, None of the people from F3 who came to the commonwealth. When describing the events of F3, No body mentions the help of a teenage vault dweller. I don't think anyone even mentions his father, James. With how big of a Role the Lone Wanderer played in F3, If he was canon then SOMEONE in F4 who had met him would of mentioned him. But they don't so right now we have to conclude that he or his direct actions aren't canon.
