Blue Screen of Death after starting Fallout 4
For 2 days now i get a BSOD right after starting FO4. i get to the main menu but then BSOD.

system_thread_not_handled fltmgr.sys is all i get as Info.

i don't use the current up to date version of FO4 because of issues with the creation club so i use the version just prior to the CK release (and i can't update becauese i downloaded those files manually. Have there been recent changes to FO4 which could cause this? i never had problems before and can play Witcher 3, Skyrim, Drednought and othe gmaes just fine.

FLTMGR.SYS blue screen errors are typically caused by faulty hardware or corrupt device driver files.

I would suggest you to follow the below link to fix the issue:

If you mean Win10, it's light blue, yeah, but still blue. The Engine Stop codes are essentially the same otherwise too anyway.

"system_thread_not_handled", means pretty much what it says, a system (kernel model) thread wasn't dealt with, this is a condition the kernel can't tolerate and thus, BSOD.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/ifs/filter-manager-concepts

FLTMGR.SYS is the Microsoft filesystem filter manager. It's job is basically to help the OS and applications find and access files stored on your Hard drives.

not using the latest version is big honking red flag. Creation club doesn't impact you are all, just don't use it. Back FO4 up , update it and see if the problem goes away.

Make sure the disk has no errors (soft or hard), try moving the game to another steam library/device.

will do. but isn't it strange that this only happens with fo4?
And also the game doens't start in full screen, only 2/3 of the screen.

Nope, not when you are running a purposefully downrev version. That's why I suggested backing up your current installation then updating the game to see if the problem goes away.

And also the game doens't start in full screen, only 2/3 of the screen.

I don't really know what this means. Are you saying the game frame/window is off center?

sorry, english isn't my first language.

It looks like FO$ starts in window mode (but without the close and maximize buttons). in the upper left corner of the screen

verifying the integrity of the game files didn't help. could it help if i un- and reinstalled it via steam?

"BSOD" means your whole PC's OS crashed & enterted into an error dump screen & must fully reboot PC. What you have is a normal "crash". Those things are two major different things. One could mean major hardware failure other is much less minor like outdated drivers.

The outdated fallout is prolly the issue... Verify game files & see if it works fully updated if so then you holding onto the outdated past is the issue... Just ignore the creation club it does not break the game in any way, only you keeping an out of date game is...

that's actually fairly normal. You should be able to simply drag the Window into the correct position. set the game to the correct desktop resolution and use borderless windowed mode, it should center itself just fine then.

did you update the game to the latest version?

i think so.
to be clear, i have no problem with un and reinstalling fo4. i copied my savegames and the bodyslide presets so i can get everything i need back.

And no,i could't drag the window anywhere. it wasn't like normal windowed mode but like the game screen shrunk itself to2/3rd the size. and since i get a BSOD as soon asi reacht he main menu i can't change resolutions or anything.

game is forcing screen res/aspect ratio you can't do. In windows, redo pc screen settings, res, aspect, size etc.

Look in Performance-advanced tools, Event Log, you will see what's causing errors.
filter to critical errors if list too big.

according to the windows logs there was an error while loading the Driver \Driver\WudfRd fSWD\WPDBUSENUM\{c4a000b4-c108-11e5-8254-448a5bd5c21c}#0000000000100000. but i have no idea where to find that

and a "Bug Check" aafter each BSOD : 0x0000007e (0xffffffffc0000005, 0xfffff8008960d539, 0xffffd0014acbf838, 0xffffd0014acbf040). Ein volles Abbild wurde gespeichert in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Berichts-ID: 110117-34343-01.

No idea how to open that file.

it's a storage driver. Can you show the whole output? It should tell you exactly what it is. do you have the game installed to a USB device like a SD card or external USB hard disk?

the bug check is just the stop code for the system_exception_thread_not_handled
