Personally I don't mind how the settler mechanics are implemented. It just gives me full control of everything. And assigning settlers still takes only 0.2% of the time you spend on settlement building. It's a quick job to do.
i have one built and when i click the button to find jobs for settlers and click which job, it then says "how many settlers would you like to assign to this job?" and i can't type of click anything after, not sure if it's a glitch or what
That's because all settlers have an activity schedule which is built into the game. That schedule is:
Midnight to 6am..........Sleep
6am to 8am.................Sandbox
8am to 8pm.................Work their assigned jobs
8pm to midnight...........Sandbox (usually getting hammered at the bar)
There's probably mods or console commands where you can adjust this but personally, I just leave it alone since it never bothered me.
But if you don't have the option to click, that means you're full up on jobs and have no people to give a new job to.
That's not entirely true. You won't be able to assign NAMED settlers (special settlers) since their jobs are hardcoded in the game but you CAN assign dismissed companions to a job. I do it all the time.
