Help with Alternate Start Mod please
omfg I am getting to frustrated. I have that stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (yet to be fixed) glitch with the alternate start mod where I cannot complete the quest rumor of a vault, because the VAULT DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. Using console commands to clip through and enter doesn't solve the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ problem, as nothing triggers.

Reading the description on the mod, it gives the following instructions, WHICH I HAVE TRIED TO FOLLOW:

set SMU_CanTalkToNick to 1 and completequest SMUQuest which will basically skip over the "Rumor of a Vault" quest.

So I put in SMU_CanTalkToNick 1 and it doesn't work, it says unknown variable. Can someone please tell me what the actual flying ♥♥♥♥ is going on and how to fix it please?

Shot in the dark, But did you push the button inside the security outpost that's meant to "call" the vault door to the surface?

yeah. It's a known glitch with that mod, where the vault door never opens. But the console commands to skip past that first part of the quest refuse to work for me :/

Try moving the .esp around in your load order? Use LOOT to check for conflicts and sort load order? You have modding enabled in the Fallout4Custom.ini yes?

Already have used LOOT, and yeah, modding is definitely enabled. I'm not entirely new to the mod scene, and I'm currently running upwards of 75 or so. And the mod works fine aside from the console command not working with it :(

Only other thing I can think of is to try the other Alternate Start-type mod called "Start Me Up". It also alters the dialogues to make more sense given that your character isn't the Sole Survivor, as well as offering just a quick skip option through the beginning part before the Vault. Whether that all appeals to you or not, only other thing I can think of, aside from trying a fresh install of the other mod and making sure there are no conflicts.

Thats the one I'm using. I wanting to continue the quest to kill Kellog for another mod to start, an enclave one. But that requires me to explore rumors of a vault and talk to nick valentine

Hey I tried SMU_CanTalkToNick 1 and it gave me an error message. The full command is 'set SMU_CanTalkToNick to 1' you have to put 'set' before and leave 'to' in there aswell. That's how I was able to make it work. Far Harbor here I come!

Hey, I don't know if you've solved this yet, but I had the same issue and solved it.

Basically go to vault 111 to start the quest, I took the elevator down but still had to tcl through the door.

In the hallway there should be a vault dweller dead on the ground (original lone survivor) and a holotape on them, listen to it and you will be prompted to "report the kidnapping" which will fix the "getting a clue" quest where you can't talk to valentine.

For me, I also encountered a bug where the vault dweller didn't appear on my 2nd run through (most likely since I added a hundred other mods and destroyed my esp), so I used cc to get the dweller code (it gives 2 codes, I used the first one), player.placeatme, killed him (yeah I play a male character, sue me) and took the holotape off his dead body, and everything went as planned from there.

I uninstalled this mod because it conflicts with far too many things. For instance if you have any mods that turn Red Rocket near sanctuary into a player home, Trying to pick that as your start location results in an endless freeze as the game tries to park you INSIDE the red rocket which breaks the game as it's now an interior cell.

More trouble than its worth to just skip the opening bits.

I'm having the same issue that you had in your second run-through. The vault dweller corpse does not appear when I turn off collisions and head through the vault door. Neither have the other commands that OP described about bypassing the quests worked. What is the exact command used for summoning the corpse? I tried inputting what you wrote in this comment but I got a prompt saying that my input wasn't tied to anything or something like that. Pls, help. I am like 15 hrs into a playthrough and finally decided to sort the main quest out.

yah i know this is an old post but if your still having trouble i found the body of the vault dweller with the holotape in the power room

If you still need the code for the dweller you can spawn them by looking up their NPC ID using "help dweller 0", the first one gives you the male and the second one female then just type "player.placeatme (NPC ID). After that just kill the ♥♥♥♥♥!
