Take more than 1 with you. The mods are very simple for doing this.
there is mod who enables something whos supposed to be in the game(but its not and it was never explained)
It was apparently intentional to have dog-meat and 1 companion , and dog meat does not count as one , thats very apparent in lots perks as dogmeat is exluded from all , and you can have dogmeat and have lone wandered bonuses
it was disabled in final game but mod can reenable that
Interesting mod i like tho , is you can take any beast from one of DLC's you can have at base (like for instance deathclaw from a cage) name it , and have it as companion:) , mine is called Fluffy , so i basicly got dogmeat , synth detective and deathclaw as advanture party:)
I searched for multiple followers mods and found Multiple Followers Overhaul...
I now have Nick Valentine and piper , plus the mutant strong with me.
I had to bring strong because he just doesnt shut up and wants to kill everything, so he's happy i suppose lol
@ϟMangekyō Sharinganϟ, that sounds like a great mod, whats the name of it ?
I like to try and let the companions stay out in front since I dont always spot enemies before they see me first.
While I was searching for mods, i found craftable ammo mod which is great as im not exactly perfect with aiming,so being able to craft ammo is great, i just need to find the ingredients for the ammo...
And now pencils will be your most sought after junk.
Also, Dogmeat is the only companion who loves you no matter what you say or do while others will be critical of you. He also supposedly has the highest sneak skill lvl. Or so I heard anyways. Especially Strong is judgemental, he dislikes everything.
If companions dislike you enough, they will refuse being your followers.
I don't run with Nick, he sucks at sneaking; Piper is okay, she cracks me up with her comments. Curie's stats suck so she is supply liner in Santuary; Deacon is meh since I never side with RR. You can get a synth follower if you side with the Instittute. I personally prefer Danse of them all - I feel super safe with him no matter what enemy crosses our path - from raiders to a Deathclaw - dude tanks, never disappears and adds great fire power. Funny, he is decked out in full suit of PA yet sneaks better than a detective in a trench coat...
Now if you want to mod, there are a few options. I was using Unlimited Commapion Framework for a while. Minimal bugs. Mostly due to having other companions and not getting the proper dialog to recruit another. But, you can work around that. I was running with a squad of 9-14. But, that may be too many for certain situations though. You could also look into follower mods that don't count as companions. Without UCF, I had Dogmeat and four other dogs/wolves. They are scripted just like dogmeat, but without the fetching ability. And none of them nullified the Lone Wanderer perks either. There are over two dozen companions/followers mods, and most of them work well. Heather Casdin is a good one to ttry out first. If you see several companions made by the same person, I'd take a pass on using those. They are very basic, and don't really add much to the experience. Their description usually says that they are basic. And that, they are! It's like taking a settler into battle.
