Edit: You can fill empty bottles on vanilla, damn 2 years and I never knew that lol
If you are playing survival mode and cooking Veggie Soup then Dirty Water will be your bottleneck. Save all bottles for DW. You won't need any purified water since soup also provides hydration and Veggie Soup is superior to Noodle cups.
If you need bottles go to breweries, cafes, schools, red rockets. You'll actually find quite a few although at times they seem scarce. You may also buy dirty water from vendors.
Edit: Unfortuantely you are the biggest clutz in the world and everytime you use a bottle of dirty water you break the bottle such that you may not use it again. This has to be the dumbest mechanic of the game.
got some bottles (beer & coke empty bottle, then i go to the river near to sanctuary, i can only press E to drink the water
Was about to say this too... Whcih I find to be a strange choice, personally...
There are several mods which return the bottle to you when consumed...
You know, i've only played Survival mode and i thought this was normal...
I learned something today, or remembered something i forgot. Who knows, really.
It's weird, of course, that you can't fill bottles with dirty water, and that this is a standard part of the base game. Even before survival existed I found it annoying that I couldn't easily get dirty water for recipes when there are entire rivers of the stuff available.
Thanks Bethesda, at this point I might just install mods that make the game feel more complete and immersive. And hopefully I can get it working with the achievement system still action.. Actually, I think there's a mod for that..
