/scrapall question
Its my understanding that using this command can really mess up some locations. I typically dont use console commands but spending an hour to find every single item to dismantle in a new settlement is tedious and ive done it on so many other saves that I just cant be bothered anymore. That being said I do know there are some places that using this command will mess up and Im just wondering if there is a list out there of places not to /scrapall so I dont screw up my save. Anyone know where it is and isnt safe to do this?

If you're interested in keeping achievements, and NOT wanting to use mods, I can't help you.

However if you already mod using the NMM / F4SE... "Scrap Everything" is an incredible mod that allows you to pick through what you can or can't scrap. Sometimes it leaves notable gaps in the terrain, so yeah if you use /scrapall it might just damage the area beyond repair. But manual deletion can be done using that mod and I highly recommend it (it turns stuff into fertilizer and its normal components, so... fun stuff).

As for the actual question at the end, if a location has ANY secret doors or entrances to another zone, like the underground area of Sanctuary Hills, or the door to the basement in that one ghoul-filled house, THOSE DOORS will vanish and you will not be able to use them to get into the zone, ever - but the zone itself will still exist, and may become the focus of a quest. (basically anywhere that has a link to some place you must use, should be avoided).
I tested the scrapall command once in the red rocket truck stop near sanctuary when I went back to sanctuary random things including wires to electirc devices were missing attempting to replace the missing wire crashed the game that was a long time ago.

There is also the electric wires in sanctuary that go into the underground area behind that one house that once scrapped gives that red power indication permanently because whatever it powered is not longer connected and unable to be reconnected.

That was the first and only time I ever tried that command.

Well thanks for the info, but now I'm a bit worried I dont really want to stop myself from getting acheivments so I loaded up a file before I did the /scrapall. Is that going to work or do I have to start over now?

I wouldn't say Scrapall ruins anything, so much as it will scrap things that you normally can't, and sometimes deletes things that were meant to remain as walls or decoration.

Personally, I don't mind it as I'd rather have the extra build space, and I can cover up any mistakes with my own decorations or just cover things up.

you do know there is a mod for achvments were you dont need F4SE

Scrapall is dangerous, yes. Though there are locations which do suffer, and those that don't. And those that do or don't depending from other factors. E.g. you can use it in Red Rocket, but only if you didn't build anything in Sanctuary. If you did - your cables in southern part of the settlement will disappear. They will still work, but you won't see them. In other locations it will mess with navmesh, so your settlers will struggle moving even more.

If you are using "scrap everything", then together with scrapall it will be devastating, as you'll scrap things you shouldn't have - e.g. you will lose water / electricity generators in Vault 88. They will be there, you just wouldn't be able to connect them.

In other words - if you can avoid using scrapall - please do. As of 2018, there are ways to scrap your settlements nicely - Salvage Bot might be the best of these options. There is also Transfer Settlements mod which "nukes" your settlement - and it has mild effect comparing to scrapall. Still, in Vault88 it's still a better option due to 4 workshops and enormous amount of scrap. However, always disable your scrap mods before using the scrapall. Never use Scrap Everything and scrapall together.

I feel your pain OP, I have done at least 20+ starts over the years and scrapping Sanctuary over and over sucks ♥♥♥♥ through a silly straw. The rest of the settlements aint so bad.

I think that is because the southwest cell of Sanctuary is shared with the northenr half of Red Rocket.

The biggest thing to keep in mind if you are using any mod that allows to scrap thigns you normally cant can cause issues.

Spectacle Island - Use it only after you gain contorl of the settlement. Otherwise scrapping the electrical stuff wont allow you to summon the queen to gain the settlement.

Vault 88 - If used early it can screw up the quests. Afterwards you bring on issues mentioend above liek power and water. Also you will make the vault MUCH darker because it scraps the lights at to the toop of the first big room.

Castle - Using it can cause you to scrap the door and the stuff inside for Big Guns.
