can't put doors on sanctuary houses
i only started to play this game yesterday, so i'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong or if the game is extremely bugged.

i'm trying to build my first settlement on sanctuary and i'd like to put doors and close windows on the old houses - something that looks basic - i noticed that the doors fit perfectly to the size, but somehow it gets red and i'm never able to place it. in fact, most structures are impossible to place where i want to. that's weird.

i already spent more than 6 hours trying to fix place doors, windows, and a new roof on the houses. now i just want to place the doors and start playing

how can i place the doors on the sanctuary houses?

note: i saw this video explaining exactly what i'm trying to do, but it's done on a console and unfortunately it doesn't work on PC > https://youtu.be/yF-tUy8I29M

any tips?

Unfortunately, you can't put doors on the already existing houses... without mods. As always there are mods that allow it.

However, there is a janky way to add doors for an unmodded playthrough. Basically, take the door/entry from the shack housing section and place it as flush as possible to the existing houses entrances, then add a door to them. Yeah you wind up with an entry that has 2 doorjams, but its the only easy way to do it without mods.

theres a youtube video on how to do it. I never bothered because I don't care about doors, but yeah you build the doorways somewhere, put the doors in, put a piece of something on the ground in front of it, get rid of the door way, and have the door and the door jam move together.

which allows you to move the door and place it wherever and whatever height you want.

but people would generally just download a place anywhere mod on the PC. its more a console thing.

i tryed that tip from the video i posted but it doesn't work on PC, and i already imagined that i would be able to do it with mods, but it's someting so basic... and i want to try the achievements.

You can mod your game AND get achievements. Just Google "fallout 4 achievement enabler" or something similar.

It is really disappointing that you can't. There are mods though to help

The only door that seems to work without mods, though it still does not snap, is the sliding door, so all my houses have sliding doors, not great but they are better than nothing.

Didn't see you allready posted the video, but all shown tricks, tips and glitches work 100% also on PC.

If not, thats on your side and you are propably doing it in a different order.

another weird thing are the walls. there's an option to rotate the wall, but when i place it in the floor, the wall automatically rotates to the main position. i can't even understand why they left the option to rotate the wall if it doesn't work :)

i'm really trying to not use mods, but the game seems to have a lot of problems... i wouldn't expect this after so many time passed from the release date. the developers are not updating this game?

Nope, Beth's Fallout's and Skyrim are notoriously glitchy and buggy.
Fallout 3 is still being sold on Steam even though it doesn't even run out of the box on systems with Windows 7 and above. You need to download community made fixes first to run them.

It does run out of the box, you just need games for windows live installed.

I stand corrected, for some people it did work without issues when they were able to get Windows live to work on their system.

Still though, for many others it did not...

i was able to do everything on skyrim without mods.

in fallout i'm stuck in the first 10 hours figuring out how to place one door.

meanwhile i quit trying to use those abandoned houses on sanctuary and i built one from start, but now i'm stuck again figuring out how to place doors in the interior of the house. this is ridiculous :D

what about all those construction dlcs? does this work better on dlcs?

Nope, they just ad more doors that you wont be able to use.

Keep fiddling, you'll get the hang of it at some point.

i think i don't have that one yet.

anyway i just managed to build a nice building without internal doors and it feels safe :') ...i'm going to start exploring now because i already spent way too much time just building the settlement :D
