With your i5 I strongly suggest you keep Shadow Distance on medium and Godrays off.
If some of your crashes are when fast traveling or going through load doors, I suggest you go to the settings menu then Gameplay and turn off all of the autosave functions.
It may also help to not play the game at a resolution above 1920x1080.
Hope this helps.
Edit; Another thing to do is to restart the game after say 30 minutes of play. It has been known to help restore framerate after several hours of play. It might help lower your CTD amount too.
*Try turning off Weapon Debris if you have it on.
I'm never gonna be able to play Fo4 without crashes again am I :C
Take a deep breath and Re-Install the game.
If the answer to this is "YES", you might have:
1. "junk" files left in your Data folder from incomplete or improper mod uninstall. Unless you know exactly what to look for, the best fix here is to delete everything and re-install the game.
2. leftover scripts that are "baked" into your save. Unfortunately, there's no fix for this other than startimg a brand new game. Actually, I would recommend you DO start a new game just to test this. If your crashing stops, then you'll know this was the issue.
However, if you really NEVER had ANY mods installed, just ignore this post and do as ronr42 suggests.
Frozen -> Menu opened, engine halted
Thawing -> Menu closed, resume
Hey there is no 100% way papyrus log or CTD'S tells us more then when the game crashes. Some computers can't handle out side programs from running at the same time. Which means having background windows and programs running causes it to fail..
Mods are another facture.
I'm more interested in Did you optimize the computer to kill background programs from running and are you running a firewall/virus scanner.
I think you have a software interfering with Fallout 4.
Nope, i've recently formatted my pc and the first thing i did was downloading Fo4
Well the thing is: I used to be able to play the game just fine 6 months ago when i last played it. Then some days ago upon formatting i decided it would be nice to play some Fallout again so I downloaded it and it started crashing like crazy.
I'm not running any firewall/virus scanner and I've not optimized the computer now that I think of it. How should I do it?
I had a similar proble with my last computer. The C drive was a solid state device, but it was over 90% full, and I was crashing every hour or so. Defragging the C drive removed the problem completely.
Unfortunately, a few weeks later the video card shorted out and took the motherboard with it. I had to get a new computer with a much larger SSD, and a 43 inch monitor while I was at it. There were other problems, but that's another story.
In the meantime, system specs might be useful. Steam overlay > "Help" > System Information" then copy and paste to your thread.
Might want to get your system actually working before offering erroneous advice.
Defragging may speed loading times due to the proper organization of the files. It is also part of Win 10 housekeeping.
Before you start insulting people check your facts. That way you will appear less a boor.
Well, the ASUS STRIX has a stock OC, I mean, I didn't tinker with that and as I said it ran great before so I don't think that's the problem (besides, if it were the problem I'd be to scared to even touch or change the clock of my GPU haha).
Here's my specs:

FIRST of all, make doubly sure that your monitor is actually plugged into the VIDEO CARD and NOT the video connector on your motherboard.
Once you're absolutely sure you're actually plugged into your video card, disable the on board graphics in the BIOS. That should deallocate the RAM assigned to the Intel HD graphics and possibly solve your problem.
EDIT: I finally managed to fix it by switching back to Win7 and deleting the files in C>Games>Nexus Mod Manager
Now I don't know which one of the two was the fix, all I know is that everything works great now.
(As i said i did not have any mods installed since I had just formatted but the files in that folder were somehow not deleted so I ended up with no Nexus Mod Manager and no actual mods in the game but those files were still in that folder and maybe they were messing with the game somehow idk.)
Thank you guys for your help anyways :)
