Far Harbor And Radiation Resistance
FH is next on my list. I recently saw a map of the world space - wowsa - it's bloody huge. Not that I'm complaining.

I know there is a lot of radiation in FH, or so I believe. I'll just deal with it as necessary. Refreshing Beverages work fine for me and they're easy to craft.

But...I have 3-4 perks to spend. Is it worth getting all the radiation resistance ranks and backing it up by adding resistance to a couple of pieces of armour (arm pieces)? I could end up with a constant, 65 resistance.

Worth doing or pointless at those numbers for FH? Any better perks for this purpose?

Honestly, the radiation in Far Harbour was pathetically low IMO... For all the hype about how irradiated it is, take a few extra Rad-X and Radaway, or simply use Power Armour, and it's nothing to worry about - especially if you've spent any real length of time exploring the Glowing Sea...

The difference is akin to a few spots of rain (Far Harbour) and a thunderstorm (Glowing Sea)...

I had no rad perks besides the water one & had no problems with far Harbor at all.

Righty ho...thanks Ruin.

No PA for me though. I don't like it.

Just had a thought. Veggie Soups stack and I'm swimming in them. Could gulp 3-4 at a time and repeat.

And FH looks like it will be great to play now I'm at a decent level.

Well, this is a matter of preference. I mean, radiation exposure is a gameplay element, so ask yourself if you want to skip that part of the game or not.

For example, the Aquaboy/girl perk. Water is meant to be dangerous to go in, and you have some tools at your disposal to fix your exposure to radiation when you get out of the drink.

Some people might find that tedious, so Aquaboy/girl effectively cancels out or skips that part of the game. There are other tools like the Hazmat suit at your disposal to effectively cancel out the radiation effects, at the cost of armor protection.

Do you like healing yourself from Rad damage or do you find it tedious? Thats the real question at hand, and one only you will be able to answer for yourself.

This Island is supposed to be dangerous and rife with radiation. To me, I like to expose myself to it; it gives me a reason to use my ~100 radaways and RadX's.

I've got that perk. One of the first I get so I can swim for short cuts. The Wasteland guide that boosts swimming speed is good too.

Yeah, that'll work... Pretty much anything that reduces radiation will do the trick... I really was expecting the radiation there to be alot worse...

There's the occasional fog patch, but it causes less radiation per second than standing in shallow water in the Commonwealth...

Yup, see my previous reply.

I got the perk early on because I kept running out of Radaways etc. Now addicted to it, even though I don't need it at higher levels - loads of antidotes and so on.

Some of the COA sites are moderately high yet manageable, but overall the island radiation is more of a auditory nuisance than anything.

You replied as I was answering.

Sounds like you're not interested in the radiation part of gameplay then. Perk away, brother.
Far Harbor radiation is as unharmful as Glowing Sea's...you are constantly told the region is desolate, dangerous and EXTREMELY irradiated, that standing in there for too long would mean death...just for you to reach the place and find this was complete bullshit.

Specialized armor (power armor or layered, your choice) with a couple of anti-rad chems such as rad-x and radaway are enough, no need to invest any perk point specifically on radiation related abilities.

I would agree, unless you find that aspect of gameplay tedious enough to not want to bother.

Yeah but if i was going to spend perks, i'd go with Chemist. options of simply stacking Rad-X or taking glowing blood packs.

if you have 2 ranks of chemist your rad-x lasts twice as long so its basically +100 Radiation resistance because you can take two for the same period you'd take one previously.

or just use half as much.

its not like rad-x is hard to find in quantities. I'm always dumping it in my stash cuz it has weight and I never need more than like 4 for regular business.

I've recently been through the whole island of FH with a character with zero points spent on rad resistance. Didn't wear power armor or anything else to help with radiation. It's pretty trivial to manage.

If you have access to Solar Powered, I can recommend it just for the convenience of rads disappearing on their own. Ghoulish rank 4 works too but heals rads MUCH slower, and it even costs you 4 points.

By the way, Far Harbor is one of the very best parts of FO4, so enjoy!

Thanks for all the replies guys. Much appreciated.

And FH does seem to be great fun (@kaffekoppen) Probably a lot of hours worth of gameplay in there.

Yep... I was a little worried it would be Point Lookout 2.0 (which I was really dissapointed with), but was pleasantly surprised, and really enjoyed Far Harbour...

I really should get around to actually finishing it someday...
