Shadow Increase (without Mods/in-game/INI files)?
In the game, there are many places where something isn't casting a very visible Shadow (eg. Workbenches, etc) even though some other things around it, are.

HBAO+ is on.
Monitor re-calibrated (most monitors run at about 20-30% too bright (Gamma, etc))
No Mods (except HRTP)

I know that SweetFX/ENB (and most likely Mods) will enhance or create more Shadows; but I was wondering if there is anything built-into the game (or through configuration file editing (INI files)) that can be done to increase Shadows (or create more Shadows, make them more pronounced, etc)...

I'll try find a Screenshot example of this 'not much shadows' occurrence

Thanks for any ideas

ENB doesn't create shadows but does use SSAO, gives the existing more depth, just pressing shift + F12 when you have an ENB (just the ENB, don't need presets that drop your fps to 10 to see this) makes you realise what you were missing.

Theres no shadows there tho, regardless of settings. Just checked.

Ah, I see - thank you for the clarification - and your test/confirmation!

There are lots of light sources that are set to not cast shadows. Its an 'optimization' feature. Nothing wrong with your game.

Thank you for the explanation... That's too bad, but I suppose 'shadows on everything' wouldn't be great performance-wise either, so some sacrifices had to be made.

Skyrim has shadows at that distance, on everything. Skyrim shadow distance (and quality) can also be DOUBLED beyond ultra settings, and the game handles it no problem on any more capable hardware, say a 2014 i5, a 2014 GTX 970, or greater.

Somehow they managed to, 4 years later, do 2 or 3 times the lesser job with FO4 where even the standard ultra settings can drag down 300/400$ processors and graphics cards, forget doubling down on shadows, else its 15 fps for you. Between that and consolitis, that on PC goes around removing all those little details and adding fog everywhere so the engine doesn't have to render anything just so an xbox can at least play around 30 fps, and the results are those screenshots.

You're expected to focus on the pretty shots tho, not those ugly plans.

Nice summation.
"Consolitis" hah

Not a slight against Consoles (I played on them a lot growing up and my friends all have them and I like Consoles, even though the only one I have now is an NES (yes it works woot) I would buy more if I could afford it), but why don't game developers create games for PC FIRST? With alllll the beautiful bells and whistles, graffffix and lighting and everything.... and then 'dumb it down' for Consoles?

Then, noone can complain. PCs look great, the performance would be Optimized for them, people would complain less, Consoles would be 'as good as it can get' for them, everyone would be happy.... no?

I feel like they are doing it all backwards....
