Do you like the Skill checks in Fallout 4? (Compared to Fallout 3)
This is just a simple question, and for those of you who haven't played Fallout: Vegas/Fallout 3, don't worry, you can still answer with your opinion:

TL;DR: Do you prefer random luck or a hard stat to pass a check?

Fallout 3's skill checks works with your skill point amount, and if you wish to do a barter check, your skill needs to be equal or higher than that number, so for example, if you wish to convince someone to pay more caps in exchange for a job, you'll need to have a barter skill higher, than say, 50. So if it's more, you get more caps, if it's less, it fails and you don't get anything out of it.

Fallout 4, however, works with RNG, so various factors would increase your chance to do a charisma check, so if you want to get more caps, depending on your charisma, you'll have a chance to either get the extra caps, or just get whatever the original offer was...

So, do you like it when there's a chance that you'll get it right, or do you like it when you have a hard number that you just have to beat?

Because, in Fallout 4, all you'd have to do to pass a charisma check (and you can literally have 1 Charisma), is to quck-save, do the check, and if you fail, just re-load and try again. You will succeed... eventually.

This can't be abused in the older games, so that's a plus, I'd say

I think the idea had some merit - but that they seriously screwed up its implementation. Especially where modding is concerned.

If they had done it like that - or, at the very least, made the UI extendable - it would have been pretty great.

As for savescumming CHA checks - you could do that in FO3 too.

Yes but... wait, does Fallout 3 work in percentages or hard numbers? I've mostly only played New Vegas, which requires you to have like a speech fo 50.

They were also percentage checks. Save and reload.

FNV (and FO1/2) used hard threshholds for speech checks.

I prefer luck based ones tbh, people can save scum anything if they want to, it doesn't pay to obsess over stopping it.
