Change FOV in Survival Mode?
So I'm trying out Survival Mode - which is hilarious by the way...

You learn very quickly, things like; you can't just jump into packs of things and shoot everthing's head off anymore - and that Yao Guai walking around two dead Super Mutants? You no longer Snipe at it and pick a fight with it - you back away slowly and pray it doesn't see or hear you (kind of like a Bear in real life, so that's great to me lol).

Anyway, I was trying it out the past while and I get Motion Sickness from the Field Of View. I have in Fallout 4 since the beginning (as I have had to adjust all Bethesda games because of this, usually using something in the high 80s). I had no problem in Non-Survival Modes because I could just use the Console for Commands. However, in Survival Mode, the Console isn't available to do this...

Does anyone have any ideas on how to adjust the FOV in Survival?
I'd rather not 'cheat' or use 'mods', if I could possibly avoid it...

Note to Beth:
Perhaps allowing certain Commands in Survival and Locking others Out (like allowing FOV, for instance) - for those of us who kind of need certain ones... Just a Suggestion

Liking Survival so far though!

Edit:
I have tried the INI file editing to set the FOV to 90 90, but it doesn't seem to work for Survival...

It works for survival, but for ini changes I've only gotten it to work on a new game, you can also try this:

Add this to the Fallout 4 INI

sStartingConsoleCommand=FOV 90

if it doesn't stick try adding

sStartingConsoleCommand=refreshini

After it.

Be aware, using the StartingConsoleCommand function in the ini will increase the time it takes for you game to actually start. So if you're stuck on a black screen when you hit play for a few seconds, don't panic.

There is a simple mod which enables console commands for survial in the Ingame-Modmenu. So if you are not an achievement-hunter go for it. I used it too to fix some quests (Dependency, Emogene takes a lover. etc.) or to unstick severeal times and if you are enjoying survival you wont go for fast-travel or Godmode by console anyway.

Thanks for the info, but I'm trying to avoid Mods and yes, get some Achieves on the way, heh

Interesting... I must have to start over then. I changed this Character to Survival after doing a bit in Sanctuary, to try it out.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll have to try those tomorrow.

If you want to confirm your FOV has indeed changed, when you start a new game, the Character Creator (Specifically the Mirror you look through while making your character) will have a very clear and off-putting edge at the very beginning.

You will love radscorpions. Or they will love you. Maybe both.

If I may pop back with an Update:

I started a New Character, as your instructions did not seem to 'take' with the present one I was playing; and although they seem to work, it does not seem 'complete'.

For example, the Power Armor seems to 'pop out' and 'pop in' the FOV (it moves as though I have typed an FOV Command, but of course I have not) - and although it did not happen all the time anymore, I still found myself getting 'dizzy'...

The Pip-Boy also came up 'zoomed in' sometimes (it seems very close, as though I moved it closer but of course I did not). Sometimes, Zoning seemed to reset it (going in an out of a building/Zone), but most times it did not.

I also noticed that if I changed the Character to Very Hard (turning off Survival Mode), and typed in FOV 90 90 (for example), the Field of View changed, as though the Startup Commands did not work... I also tried using the INI's with a 'regular' Normal game - and typing in FOV 90 90, the screen FOV changed...

I thank you for your efforts though. Perhaps Bethesda can allow certain Commands some day, but until then, I will just have to play in short bursts (Suvival Mode). If you have any other ideas (or others do), I'd be happy to try those too.

Try http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/102/?

It's not a mod, just a program that edits the ini files.

Thanks! I'll try it out

Edit:
It works! :steamhappy:
I'm not sure what differs from the manual editing, but this did it... I even tested from my previous post, the...

"changed the Character to Very Hard (turning off Survival Mode), and typed in FOV 90 90 (for example), the Field of View changed, as though the Startup Commands did not work... I also tried using the INI's with a 'regular' Normal game - and typing in FOV 90 90, the screen FOV changed..."

...and it stayed at that viewing angle! I ran around a bit and not too queasy, heh.

Thank you very much, this little tool also makes making some manual changes far easier. Wonderful stuff. If I can afford to Donate some day I will... (I am unable to work at this time).
Edit2: I donated a small amount anyway, I wanted to be sure to thank the Developer for what a great utility this is...

Thanks again for suggesting it!
