Is it possible to alter default controls?

This question probably seems stupid - of course, we can alter controls in the settings. However, several are not configurable. My problem is the use of the arrow keys for conversations, as well as in workbench etc. I always set my controls for first person games to using the arrows for movement - I don't like WASD (probably because I am left handed). In this game I often find myself giving the wrong instruction to Dogmeat because I move towards him and then the upward arrow suddenly chooses what I am going to say. I recently lost Preston Harvey and think I might have accidently asked him to stand somewhere, God knows where. I have download a couple of mods that allow me to use 1,2,3 & 4 in conversations, but the arrows still also work for choices, so I have gained nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas? I am happy to use Nexus mods if necessary.

Get a USB or xbox360 controller, the latter comes with an adapter, the former you have to download a third party software for it

Thanks for the quick reply. However, I was hoping to play with mouse and keyboard as this is always my preferred method for first person games.

F4SE allows to remap nearly all the keys with a text file called CustomControlMap.txt.

There is a mod on the Nexus that comes with a such a file for Arrow Key users: F4SE Custom Keyboard for Arrow Key Users[www.nexusmods.com].
You can give it a try, but you need to install F4SE for it to work.

If you don't want to use F4SE, another tool you can try is AutoHotKey[ahkscript.org].

Thank you so.... much, Debugger, for this helpful reply. It is exactly what I was looking for. I have done the F4SE suggestion and (so far) it works perfectly. This has solved my only annoyance with this otherwise excellent game. Thanks for your time.
