Fallout 4

Should I upgrade my CPU or GPU for this game?
Here are my specs....

Windows 10 Home 64-bit
H110M motherboard
AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB dedicated graphics
Technical details: 6th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-6400 processor; 16GB memory; 120GB solid state drive; 1TB hard drive

Now the point of me getting a new PC was so I could finally play freaking Fallout 4 at a constant and nonstop 60fps, yet even at the lowest possible freaking settings, my framerate just dips from 60fps to the mid 30's in certain areas and in settlements I have built....This infuratied me to no end as I have games like Warhammer Total War, SC2 at a constant 60fps yet this low-grahpic game eats it up...

By now, I consider Fallout 4 to be the ultimate benchmark game in my computer and I need you guy's advice on which part of my PC I should focus on upgrade, if there is a bottleneck of any kind....

and if you guys know of a better replacement for said parts....

EDIT*: Here's a link to the PC specifications

The system is prebuilt, but I plan on upgrading it with better components once I start getting the in's and outs of how to maintain and upgrade computers....

SLI is disabled there, though. My SLI scores are far higher, bordering on 34k graphics. Besides, Fallout 4 works well with SLI, surprisingly so, as the notorious water refraction problems present in Fallout 3/NV and Skyrim aren't here.

SLI works well in this game in the GPU bound locations, set foot inside the cities where heavy CPU limitations exist and you get an entirely different experience.

In the cities which are notorious for fps drops due to being CPU and System ram hungry I am in the mid to upper 40's with a 4790k at 4.5ghz and ddr3 2400mhz ram.

Tried disabling your hyper threading? I found that it gives quite a kick to this game's performance, though I admit I have been bottlenecked, 100% on all 4 cores ftl

I did, thanks... but it didnt make any difference... I think in the cities I actually lost some fps with it off.

If I run 1440p even with my mods and tweaked ini 60fps at all times is cake, even in the city areas.

Strange, my frame rate has definitely been higher with it off, i've tested both. Minimums are better, but then again my game is heavily modded.

My game is heavily modded as well, tons of nexus mods, a heavily tweaked ini.....

Here is one of me just messing around with all my mods, modded ini "ugrids to load at 9" maxed at 1440p.

This was with my modded 980ti.

Absolutly not your processor, i run it on an old i7 "960 3,26" with no bigger problem.
robs2010mazda6s 8 jan. 2017 às 9:04
This one was with DSR close to 4k "3400Xwhatever it was" Again same setup I have now but with a 980ti. Heavily modded ini+tons of nexus mods.. ugrids to load 9.

I left my ugrid count at stock and focused on enhancing the currently loaded cells, like i've traditionally done. dating back from Oblivion i've had trouble with ugrids messing up performance, maybe I just set the value far too high.
Yes if you set it too high it will mess up... never had an issue with 9 in skyrim or Fallout 4 and it makes a huge difference. Also have the grass set to draw wayyyy out... I mean there is literally no noticeable pop ins at all with my config. Also have loaded cells modded too.

I eventually ended up getting a HTC VIVE and seeing how much better pascal is with VR vs Maxwell I ended up selling the 980ti on ebay for $400 and my friend sold me his Gtx 1080 for $425 which I have modded a bit and it runs at a none throttling 2100mhz core and the memory is way up too.

If it wasnt for VR I might still be sporting the 980ti a little longer.

The videos are a lot smoother if you watch them through your browser, not the steam one. I dont know why its like that but it drives me nuts. lol.

That's because of 60fps support on newer Chrome builds and Firefox ;)

I'm going to buy a Vive once the VR update/re-release hits.
Oh ok forgot about that with the firefox build. But its a hitching and stutter i get when watching it through steam, i mean a smooth 30fps wouldnt do that but.. who knows, in short stick with your browser.

Vive has been awesome, cant wait to play this in VR myself. You will love it! So far I use lots of super sampling in the stuff that I play, it really makes a huge difference in image clarity with VR since its so in your face with everything.

Okay guys! I've been snooping around in some stores and I've found a nifty and powerful AMD AM3+ FX-6300 Six Core 3.5/ 4.1 Ghz Processor at a reasonable price of $95 dollars....

Would you guys say thats sufficient in boosting the preformance of my PC significantly? And if so, with the specs given, would my motherboard be able to handle it?
That is a ♥♥♥♥ CPU. And no your motherboard isn't compat.

If so, then whats a better alternative that is compatable with the motherboard I currently have?

A list of possible processors will help me alot!

lol your current cpu from an ipc point of view would take a dump all over a fx 6300 and besides as Erebus stated that isnt compatible with your MB as not only are you on an entirely different socket but its an Intel one at that, not an amd one.

Let me check your board out.. BRB.

You are on socket 1151. Go find compatible CPU's for your socket.
robs2010mazda6s 8 jan. 2017 às 9:37
There are several options available for you.. Do you want an i7? a better i5? do you plan to overclock? etc etc........... Not sure about your mb's overclocking abilities as it looks pretty much like a budget board.
