Important items to keep?
In Fallout 3 Sugar Bombs, Pre War Books, Nuka Cola Quantum and items like them were a good idea to horde until you found a good use for them (like a quest or good money) are there any items like them in Fallout 4 I should be collecting? So far i've been keeping a stockpile of quantum and sugar bombs because Fallout 3 conditioned me to.

Don't exclude those; since they weigh nothing but have a value, they're always worth taking (unlike burnt books and burnt textbooks, which have weight, but no value). Same with individual cigarettes and cigars.

Quantum is definitely still valuable, though far more common than in the past.

You can get some rewards with overdue books but nothing to go wild over. The only thing I can really think of is jet, because you can sell it for about 75 caps a pop to a vault dweller in 81. Granted it's super easy to make and you can make a lot of it quickly by setting up a fertilizer farm (ironic, right?) with brahmin so you don't really have to keep an eye out for it.

Here's a general list of what I know:
-tools (hammers, wrenches, etc) for the handyman guy in vault 81
-technical documents for Quinlan on the Prydwen (it rhymes! you need to talk to him first to be able to get them, btw)
-viable blood samples for Neriah on the Prydwen (need to talk to her first, too)
-mutfruit for the Mrs Nanny in Graygarden (barely pays anything, not worth it IMO)

Why did you keep Quantum, Sugar Bombs and Pre-war books? The books i understand but they are only good after a certain point.
But you 'should' be collecting scrap items to do things - such as upgrading and building.

The main one that I remember is one of the copies of Massachusetts Surgical Journal, so if you want all of them (and why wouldn't you), you'll at least need to collect a few overdue books to turn in, or just hoard book return tokens (which are another weightless thing you should always take).

Ice Cold Nuka Cola Quantum i got only 1 of these on my 102 lvl character and it heals like 975 hp if i remember right its like a god made cola i tell you

I tend to keep better weapons I don't need to scrap for goodies to use for sale.

Building stuff for me is more important than cash. aluminum (esp cans), screws, adhesive (duct tape/wonder glue) and oil.

Habit. Just recently I've been playing more FO3 on the xbox (been sick). I have to quit looking at every can to check if it's aluminum. lol

Even if they have a caps value its very small and not worth tlme time it takes to look through the miscellaneous tab

It's not like you sell them individually at every merchant; you just grab them along with other stuff and sell them whenever it happens to occur to you. Since they weigh nothing, you don't lose anything by carrying them around.

In Fallout 3 the quantum was for the girl with the nuka cola museum, the books for the BOS girl at the library and a ghoul paid good money for sugarbombs to make his jet.

Of course I collect anything of value like guns and scrap for building, I was thinking more along the lines of items that are turned into people for caps, quests etc. Like the quantum quest in fallout 3 or the sugar bombs for the ghoul.

There are no items you rwally need to collect for quests.

Items to sell for caps is purified water so set up a bunch of industrial purifies and grab it out of the work shop every so many days and sell it

prewar money, weighs nothing, worth more than caps.
