Crafting ammo vs buying
Hey folks,

I find that it is still much easier to buy ammo as opposed to crafting them.

This is because for ammo like 10mm, it requires lead which is much harder to find. Not to mention there is no non-mod way to craft fusion cells.

Or am I missing something?

Not all the ammo needs rare ingredients to craft - offhand I think .45 ammo only requires steel and fertilizer, which are common enough that it is cost-effect to craft and then sell.

If you're looking for raw efficency it's much better to farm caps and then just buy the ammo. Even fertilizer can be a bit of a pain.

The contraptions DLC is fine but they could of done so much more with it.

Thanks, it's a bit disappointing because I was thinking of crafting my own ammo instead of buying them as a gameplay route.

There are mods which do exactly what you want.
(And for people with the "But I don't want to use mods" logic - yeah. Buying a manson but only using two rooms ... that's the same level of imbecility.)

That's the thing, it is about as reliable as buying ammo from vendors, because in the end I still have to buy the lead and fertiliser from the vendors.

Moisture farming is the way to go for getting caps.

There are a few gyms out there where you can load up on weights to give you qutie a bit of lead. Fertilizer can be more annoying, but the bot run farm sells it (Mr. Green I think) and Brahimin produce it if you have a feed trough. Also, pick up pencils (they, for some reason, contain lead in the fallout universe rather than graphite).

I use a scrapping mod that allows me to scrap plants and bodies in settlements so I never have issues with fertilizer, lead can be problematic without shipments but hitting the gyms found in the world (I know there is one in that robot shopping plaza, and another in downtown Boston at least) should give you plenty.

I considered setting up an ammo plant, but after accumulating about 3k rounds of .45, .50, 5.56, and 5mm from shops, I'll just sit on my reserves for a bit.

I've never even come close to running out of ammo, I just take it from dead enemies.
