Even bringing Nick won't work.
With some patience, Nick unlocks any other master terminals (like the bank's ones)... but this terminal must be "super-locked" to force the Railroad route...
so yea that area is pretty much railroad mission only
BOS and Minuteman are the same way, some areas can't be accessed without them
its reasons like this why this kind of game has great replay value
Oh well I guess maybe its time to do a play through where I try to keep the Rail Road alive instead of using the institute to wipe them out. I always felt the Rail Road was counter productive to their mission since they were killing the synths they were claiming to save by wiping their memories.
