Then verify your game files. Go into the Steam client, open the Library, right-click on Fallout 4 in the left pane, select "Properties", then the tab "Local Files" and there it's the button at the bottom.
Also, if you have any mods installed then get rid of all of them (disable&delete). Some may no longer work with the latest version and you also better first start fixing your game before you add some mods.
Don't delete files in your steam folder after you've verified it.
If you've installed a 3rd party anti-virus software then either disable it or exclude the game directory from scans.
And with only 6GB of RAM should you set up a static pagefile (set it to a fixed size i.e. 8GB). I hope you didn't turn it off.
There was an update a while back which altered the graphics, and it caused me the same issues with my GTX970... Doing the above resolved it for me at the time...
Played about a year ago. No hardware changes to my computer. As a matter of fact, I think I bought the 970 for this game.
Updated drivers. No mods. Game "optimized" by Geforce Experience. Files all verified. And no changes to my pagefile (system managed).
Not sure if any one thing fixed it, or a combination of any and/or all things I've tried.
And it remains to be seen how permanent the fix is.
Once again, thanks Ruin & sdack for the suggestions.
That might have made the difference... I always run Full Screen Windowed mode as I use a second monitor...
